How to prevent Master Boot Record (MBR) corruption ? Problem: In some situations such as a virus attack, power surge, etc, Master Boot Record can get damaged.

How to prevent Master Boot Record (MBR) corruption ?

Due to this damage the computer becomes un-responsive and unbootable. Solution: If a Master Boot Record and partition information backup is available on a floppy drive, then you can recover and restore Master Boot Record using Active@ Partition Recovery. Boot the machine using that floppy and run Active@ Partition Recovery and restore Master Boot Record from the backup. IT IS STRONGLY ADVISED TO MAKE MBR AND PARTITIONS BACKUP EVERY TIME THE COMPUTER CONFIGURATION IS CHANGED ( SUCH AS ADDING/REMOVING HDDs, PARTITIONS, LOGICAL DRIVES). Fixing and repair MBR.Fix MBR.Recover boot record.Recovery. The Master Boot Record (MBR) will be created when you create the first partition on the hard disk.

Fixing and repair MBR.Fix MBR.Recover boot record.Recovery.

It is very important data structure on the disk. The Master Boot Record contains the Partition Table for the disk and a small amount of executable code for the boot start. The location is always the first sector on the disk. The first 446 (0x1BE) bytes are MBR itself, the next 64 bytes are the Partition Table, the last two bytes in the sector are a signature word for the sector and are always 0x55AA.

For our disk layout we have MBR: Physical Sector: Cyl 0, Side 0, Sector 1 000000000 33 C0 8E D0 BC 00 7C FB 50 07 50 1F FC BE 1B 7C 3AZ??. What will happen if the first sector has been damaged (by virus, for example)? Lets overwrite the first 16 bytes with zeros. 000000000 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 ................ 000000010 BF 1B 06 50 57 B9 E5 01 F3 A4 CB BE BE 07 B1 04 ?.. When we try to boot after hardware testing procedures, we see just blank screen without any messages.

External HD No Longer Works With Computer [Solved]

I found this board while desperately searching for a fix for my Ext. HD. My sister unplugged it today while it was writing, and now it won't recognize properly. It used to designate itself properly as the F:\ as soon as it hooked up. Since the unplug, it calls itself a USB Mass Storage Device in Device Manager, can't be recognized in Disk Management (so I can't designate a letter drive [f:\ etc.]), doesn't show up in My Computer, and doesn't need a driver as it says its driver is up-to-date (I have reinstalled the driver anyway, to no avail).

I've tried it with my laptop (which the HD was pulled out of) and my PC; the above results happen with both. When I first purchased it, it ran just perfect out of the box, no additional drivers needed. The drive is a Comstar 1TB External HD. Any help would be so appreciated.
