The Benjamin Franklin Effect. The Misconception: You do nice things for the people you like and bad things to the people you hate.

The Benjamin Franklin Effect

The Truth: You grow to like people for whom you do nice things and hate people you harm. Benjamin Franklin knew how to deal with haters. Born in 1706 as the eighth of 17 children to a Massachusetts soap and candlestick maker, the chances Benjamin would go on to become a gentleman, scholar, scientist, statesman, musician, author, publisher and all-around general bad-ass were astronomically low, yet he did just that and more because he was a master of the game of personal politics. Like many people full of drive and intelligence born into a low station, Franklin developed strong people skills and social powers.

All else denied, the analytical mind will pick apart behavior, and Franklin became adroit at human relations.

Progressive Groups Unveil 'Contract For The American Dream' WASHINGTON -- In the wake of the deal to raise the nation's debt ceiling, widely viewed as yet another setback for the progressive community, advocacy groups on the left are redoubling efforts to change the political narrative.

Progressive Groups Unveil 'Contract For The American Dream'

S&P's decision to downgrade the United States' debt and the market selloff that followed has only emboldened those voices who believe the main structural problem plaguing the economy has less to do with debt and more to do with a lack of economic growth. On Monday afternoon, MoveOn.org and Rebuild the Dream announced a campaign to build up a popular movement that could match (if not surpass) the debt reduction crowd in both size and energy. And they have borrowed a concept from former House Speaker Newt Gingrich (R-Ga.) as their organizing principle. The campaign, led by Van Jones, President of Rebuild the Dream; Justin Ruben, Executive Director of MoveOn.org; and Rep. Jan Schakowsky (D-Ill.), among others, is debuting a new Contract for the American Dream.

Tracey Marks, M.D.: How To Become A Morning Person

Even though you may be physically awake and standing, you're not much use to anyone? You need a few hours to kick into gear and always feel like you're ten steps from diving back into bed. The problem is, with this routine, several hours of your day have passed with little productivity. This may be fine if the only thing you have to do for the day is check your trust fund balance. But if you're like most people with an unrealistic to-do list, you have to fit the tasks in sometime. Another problem with that late night "productivity" is that it makes it harder to fall asleep early, so you wake with an alarm to start another busy day.

If only you could gain a productive hour or two in the morning, you could help to put yourself on a healthier course and, ultimately, be a happier person. You can train your body to snap to attention and be ready to rock-and-roll first thing in the morning. Here are some suggestions. Light Exposure Dr. FAQ.

Blender Torus Knot Tutorial. This tutorial is for those who are interested in curved structures.

Blender Torus Knot Tutorial

It is easy to follow and is well suited for beginners who want to try their hand at simple NURBS curve editing. Blender is a very powerful and precise polygon modeler, complete with NURBS support for creating smooth and curvy objects, such as boat hulls, concept cars, and torus knots. A torus knot is simply a special type of torus that has a distinctive "twisted" or "knotted" appearance. Do you remember the chrome logo of a company called MetaCreations? Here's my version created in Blender. Start by clearing the workspace (CTRL-X), select top-view (Pad7 Key), select rotate-around-cursor-mode (Period Key), and place the cursor at the origin (SHIFT-C). So now you a perfectly-shaped torus knot that awaits texturing or placement in your scene. I wrote this tutorial on paper in 2000, but never put it online.
