Advent Day 3: Crockpot Grinders

Growing up in New Jersey we called Subs Hoagies. After moving from Boston to NJ in the first grade, I had no idea what a Hoagie even was. I was introduced to the Hoagie when my school had announced that next Friday would be Hoagie Day and posted little signs of bears all over the school that read “Hoagie Day Friday.” I thought we were going to eat bears. I was a bit apprehensive to say the least. This Grinder starts out with a round loaf of Italian Bread which is then sliced to make 6 sandwiches, but not all the way through the bottom. In assembly line fashion, make 6 piles of cheese, lunch meat, and onions and pepper rings to fit down in your bread slices. Fold each bundle of cheese and meat in half and tuck down between every other slice of bread. Here is a close up of my daughter’s Grinder, she did not want onions and peppers, silly girl.

By the 1930′s there were more than 300 licensed drinking establishments (and, I would think, an uncountable number of men stumbling home with whiskey on their breath) in the 12 blocks that make up Gastown. While we certainly can’t compete with the area’s heyday in terms of numbers, we are still known as the number one spot in the city to quench your thirst.

Except that I was sipping on a cocktail at The Diamond (one of my fav bars in the area) when I ate this sandwich. Gooey melted cheese, sweet and crunchy apple and spicy sriracha butter = damn close to perfection. Grilled Cheese and Apple Sandwich with Sriracha Butter Author: The Endless Meal Recipe type: Sandwich Butter one slice of bread with sriracha butter. 1. Blue Buffalo. Buffalo Chicken is something that I get severe cravings over.

Blue Buffalo

It's not something that I want all the time, but when I get that urge, there's no stopping me. However I ran into a problem once I started eating only organic meat and buffalo chicken was something that was found few and far between. Until NOW! For this buffalo chicken grilled cheese, I combined one of my mom's most popular dip recipes and morphed it into a delicious sammie. Feast your eyes... Actually it doesn't really look that pretty, but it's pretty dang delicious. Ingredients -4 thick slices of french bread -2 pads of real salted butter -1 tbs blue cheese salad dressing -3 tbs organic cream cheese -2 tbs crumbled blue cheese -1 tbs shredded cheddar -1/2 cup cooked shredded organic chicken breast -1.5 tbs Frank's hot sauce Once you've got everything out, combine all the cheeses into a small bowl.

Stir together until you get a smooth consistency. Now combine your finely chopped chicken with Frank's hot sauce and stir. xoxo, The BABS Recipe - Tillamook.
