Handmade BJD clothes - a new outfit for Michu - Dolly Tales. I spent all last week sewing Michu some handmade BJD clothes, so she would have something nice and clean to wear after she was all done being repaired and painted. I like to dress her in pretty clothes. I decided to make her a Mori girl outfit, since she is sweet and gentle and the style suits her.

I made her a pair of pantaloons, a pair of legwarmers, a chemise, a pinafore and a little beret. My awesome mom crocheted a little vest for her, too! I have a collection of vintage handkerchiefs for making doll clothes with. When sewing the vintage fabrics, I sew very slowly and carefully, with lots of fine silk pins. I trim the seams carefully by hand with my thread snips. I serge or overcast the inside seams, but the linings usually need to be attached by hand. I made the chemise loose and flowing, like the Mori girl styles. Here are her pantaloons and legwarmers. They have working front and back pockets, and an elastic waist. I love the teeny buttons! Her pinafore has a gathered front bodice. Парики. ПРОСЬБА - ЧИТАТЬ ОПИСАНИЕ АЛЬБОМА, ПОЖАЛУЙСТА! Making a Doll Wig. I make all the wigs for the dolls.

Making a Doll Wig

It is an easy thing to do. I found the original tutorial here, in BJD Magazine. This is where you will find how to measure for the wig cap. I am just going to show you pictures after that fact. I have the pieces I need together. I slipped a plastic bag over her head and added a very small rubber band around her head making it snug especially around her ears.

I put glue on the plastic, then added first the middle, painted glue all over it, then the side pieces, adding glue again. Then last the thin strip that goes around the perimeter pulling it snug. Let it dry, and then peel off the plastic and fit it on her head seeing where it needs to be trimmed. You can see the nice snug fit here. Put the plastic bag back on, and put the wig cap over it to begin gluing on the mohair. Starting at the bottom I added a line of glue. Row by row, up the head, and around the sides. Wefting mohair. Or in my case wool, Navajo-churro to be exact.

Wefting mohair.

I used this to make a doll wig, but I certainly can think of times when a weft of long mohair would be needed in creating bears or other animals, tails, manes, ect. I wanted to make a straight wig for the doll I am working on. I have make wig caps and glued the mohair locks directly onto the cap which works just great for curls. But the straight hair not so good. I could see way to much glue.

bjd_wtf: Chapter One: What Is a BJD?

" A ball joint doll is exactly what it sounds like: a doll that has ball joints where humans have joints; (knees, elbow, waist, ect). This makes them very flexible and able to pose in very lifelike ways. Other dolls, even ones with flexible wire skeletons are not as articulated as a ball joint doll. Because of their unique design, ball joint dolls (or BJDs) can sit and stand unaided, and hold a variety of very human poses. Unlike a porcelain doll or Barbie, BJDs do not need a stand, but they are available. Ball joint dolls are also unique in another very significant way: they are designed to be fully customizable!
