I remember hearing that the books implied this, but I don't know if it's supposed to be canon in either the books or the movies. Some games clearly take place after other ones. Obviously some games take place before and after others— and with those, it actually makes sense. Hence the split timeline, which Nintendo has confirmed. Both Twilight Princess and The Wind Waker very obviously follow Ocarina of Time, and there are even geographical references to that game.
