We’re kicking of this series with a review from Ron Baker, Principal and founder of Rizen Creative. Take a look and get inspired!

The difference between mediocre graphic design and brilliant graphic design can more often that not be attributed to the use of a process or not. Before you can craft, you must understand the branding and/or design problem. Graphic Design Thinking: Beyond Brainstorming helps engage, remind and educate about the creative process, including great educational tips toward helping solve design and branding challenges. One highlight of the book, covers the sometimes overlooked process of a “brand matrix”.

With so many good quotes in the book, here is one that really hits home. Available at Papress & Amazon. M.C. Escher. For me it remains an open question whether [this work]pertains to the realm of mathematics or to that of art. —M.C. Escher Introduction Self Portrait, 1948 Maurits Cornelis Escher created unique and fascinating works of art that explore and exhibit a wide range of mathematical ideas. He was born in Leeuwarden, Holland in 1898, and when he was in school his family planned for him to follow his father’s career of architecture.

His work went almost unnoticed until the 1950’s, but by 1956 he had given his first important exhibition, was written up in Time magazine, and acquired a world-wide reputation. Escher-like motif on a building in The Hague, Netherlands. His work eventually appeared not only in printed form, but as commissioned or imitative sculptures on public buildings, as decorations on everything from neckties to mousepads, and in software written to automate the reproduction and manipulation of tesselations. Albert Exergian. By amanda Mon, 11/23/2009 - 11:09 It's been a while since my last post on posters. Maybe too great a while. I came across the portfolio of Albert Exergian the other night and knew this was something I had to share with you guys. His poster design style is very clean and geometric with minimal elements sometimes even none, sticking only with color and copy. Just how I like it :) So I compiled this collection for your viewing pleasure today.

Some of these are Albert's self-promotional posters where we see a little bit of a cross between styles. It's definitely worth it to take a trip over to his blog and portfolio to get a taste of his other work. Charley Harper. Alvin Lustig. Tara Donovan. Tad Carpenter.
