It dates back from the prehistoric period but was acknowledged during the Renaissance and has been modernized over time. The watercolor technique consists of mixing color pigments and water. The more water there is, the lighter the color. Conversely, the less water there is, the more intense the color. Watercolor paintings are most often used for landscapes, maritime or urban paintings… Precision, and detail are the key elements of this technique. 1. Rob Dudley's shows how to add unique effects to watercolour paintings with masking fluid I enjoy working with masking fluid when I paint in watercolour – in fact, I rarely make a painting without using it somewhere.
My use of it often becomes a topic of conversation during workshops or art breaks and it certainly seems to elicit strong views when discussed by fellow artists. It’s definitely the Marmite of the watercolour world –they either love it or loathe it. This feeling often stems from an unsuccessful experience when first introduced to it.
Some artists cite that the reason they prefer to avoid using masking fluid is that it can leave a hard edge to the paint on its removal. I enjoy the possibilities that masking fluid brings to my work, the opportunity to use various techniques or to create certain effects that would prove if not impossible than very difficult without using the wonderful stuff. Cindy Baron I believe the average collector doesn’t realize that watercolors are one of the most difficult mediums to paint with and take so much time to master.
Materials in this age are also much more archival than in the past and much more expensive. Framing a watercolor is not easy. I used to work in a frame shop, so I learned a lot about how to frame a watercolor. Using the right supplies, and picking archival mats and museum glass, help in preserving the watercolor for the future. Dan Mondloch Painting with watercolor is definitely a dance between accuracy and a loose handling of the medium, and it is exactly that thrill that is visible and so appealing in the final painting.

Naomi Tydeman Artist Interview, Tenby, Pembrokeshire. I recently watched The Harbour, a four-part television series following some of the extraordinary people who have made Tenby their home and who work on its busy waterside.
These include the local harbourmaster, cafe owners, volunteers at the RNLI lifeboat station and award winning artist Naomi Tydeman. Tenby (Dinbych-y-pysgod in Welsh, meaning fortlet of the fish) holds a special place in my heart, as my dad is from the nearby town of Narberth, and my aunt and uncle also live a short distance from there. As a family we have visited Tenby many times, and recently my husband and I spent some time down in Pembrokeshire, visiting Tenby and also catching the boat from there across to the beautiful Caldey Island. Whilst watching The Harbour, I was so inspired by the work of Naomi Tydeman. Naomi is a self-taught watercolour artist, and winner of the Debra Manifold Memorial Award, Winsor and Newton Prize, John Blockley and Frank Herring Award. Watercolour – Page 4 – Vintage Paper Co. For whom the eye sees An artist observes with a view to making a painting. A painting is an arrangement of elements such as line, shape, tone and colour, and includes esoteric things such as contrast, mood, energy or narrative. A painting is two-dimensional and rarely involves a huge space, so the figurative artist needs to notice arrangements and patterns in the real world that are suitable for this format, often in the blink of an eye, even though a painting is then made over time.
