Samsung Transform Review (Sprint) - Smartphones

http://reviews.cnet.com/smartphones/samsung-transform-sprint/4505-6452_7-34192012.html For a phone claiming to be transformative, we were certainly hoping for a roster of more unusual features in Sprint's new Samsung Transform. What we get instead is a very decent midrange Android smartphone with a medium-size touch screen, a slide-out QWERTY keyboard, and serviceable front- and rear-facing cameras. However, the Transform does have one unusual feature that stands out, at least for now. It's one of the first three Android smartphones to launch with Sprint's new Sprint ID Packs, which are preset profiles that configure everything from the theme and widgets to the app shortcuts that appear on your home screens, and even e-mail settings.
http://singularityhub.com/2010/10/20/this-rocking-lead-singer-is-a-3d-hologram-video/ Hatsune Miku isn't real, but her popularity is. The internet is such a big place that sometimes I stumble onto huge trends that I’ve never even heard of before. Case in point: Hatsune Miku . She’s a Japanese pop diva who’s just started to play massive stadium concerts to sold out crowds. Her hair is blue, she dresses like Sailor Moon , and she’ll only appear in concerts via a 3D ‘hologram’. Oh, and did I forget to mention that she’s completely fictional?

A makeshift microbial fuel cell: a bucket, waste water and a graphite sheet. Photo: Lebônê Providing electricity to people in countries where either the grid is not reliable, or nonexistent and unlikely ever to be built, can make a huge difference in people’s quality of life in very practical ways. We’ve written before about companies such as D.Light Design which have solar-powered replacements for kerosene lanterns , and efforts to bring small-scale solar panels to off-grid villages in Laos . Hand cranked cell phone chargers , radios and flashlights are other proven options that have received attention. Microbial Fuel Cells Provide Enough Power for Small Devices One option which is being investigated in a pilot project by Cambridge, Massachusetts company Lebônê Solutions is using microbial fuel cells to provide electricity to villagers in Tanzania. http://www.treehugger.com/renewable-energy/microbes-in-dirt-provide-electricity-for-african-villagers.html

Note: I don't endorse every word in these books, just find their pros to outweigh their cons. My criteria for including them here is that they correlate with my writings and are potentially useful and beneficial to the discerning reader. This list is being kept as short and essential as possible. Most links go to an Amazon page for hardcopy availability and reviews (referral proceeds go toward buying more books) while an additional "online" link appended to the description goes to an online source of the text. If a book is only available online, then "online only" will be noted.
