In a lot of my consultancy work I use a social learning theory- about the functioning and growth of communities of practice . Even when people don't use the term community, but online network, platform, alliance, whatever. As long as learning is one of the goals. Every consultancy is different though- I find it hard to work with blue print materials because every situation is so distinct. I can discern a red line in my work nevertheless. It is that people tend to underestimate the social capital side of online communities or online platforms.

Ik ben bezig met een presentatie over kennis delen met behulp van ICT. Bij de voorbereiding daarvan realiseerde ik me dat je een onderscheid kunt maken tussen leren in een community (waar Etienne Wenger cs op focussen) en leren in netwerken. De oorspronkelijke 'groupware' applicaties richten zich m.i. vooral op leren in communities, social software maakt volgens mij ook leren in netwerken mogelijk. Voor de helderheid heb ik de verschillen tussen een community en een netwerk voor leerdoeleinden op een rij gezet.

5.) Be Knowledgeable and Share: Think about the content that you actually post on your classroom blog or in your communities. Is it interesting? Is it things that you find online that you think the students in your class might find interesting? Your communities need to be so much more than spaces to simply post homework and assignments for your class.
