How to Stay Anonymous Online

DK1 – Well a quick intro before I begin my first article; I’m just a regular guy that enjoys staying one step ahead. On thenexus  I will be detailing a few methods to keep your sites secure and what to avoid on-line.

10 Steps stay anonymous on-line

1. This is very important. Don’t use firefox, internet explorer, or safari. Use an anonymous web browser. As an anonymous web browser will store your information, cookies, and cache on a secure server. This will hide your IP. This will protect you just as a proxy would, and more.

All the information the browser receives from your computer can ONLY be opened and examined with your password you specify. And your constitutional rights say that you don’t have to give a password to ANYONE no matter what the circumstances.

One good alternate browser in eCapsule that costs about $30

2. Encrypt your harddrive with PGP etc. what is basically does is it encrypts your entire hard drive. No one will be able to open whatever private files you have. This making it harder for hackers and the such to use information if they have stolen it, or if you misplace soem vital work (on a government laptop say).

3. Back up your system and system restore. Register your PC with completely false and misleading information, and then restore your system. This is optional but if you really want to be completely secure, you should do it.The main reason is that some programs and error reports log these information. The most famous being office documents. They have you Name and other details inside the ‘properties’ of the object.

4. Connect to a public wi-fi or system with many users. This being an obvious step as you can have all the above but if you are the only user of an IP the well it doesn’t take a genius.

5. Proxies. Tor, hidemyip, and all the manual proxies, forget about them. They’re slow, ineffective, and well, just stupid. It’s also annoying having to type in the URL to every website you want to visit in the proxy itself. Virtual Private Networks are much more effective. And you CAN get them for free.

You will be connected to the VPN. It will be fast because it’s private and not public like the manual proxies. And you don’t have to go to a specific website and type a url in each time. You use the application or connect to the server and you will be connected to the VPN in EVERYTHING you do. Not just surfing the web. Playing a game and you cheated? They will not ban your IP because you will be connected to the VPN. Everything you do that requires the internet will use the Virtual Private Network’s address. You will be completely secure.

6. Use HTTPS instead of HTTP in your URLs whenever possible. It’s more secure. For example: https://gmail.com instead of http://gmail.com

7. SPOOF YOUR MAC ID AMONG OTHER THINGS. Download MacMakeup at

It changes your machine ID and assigns you a random one.

8. Never use any of your real information when signing up for accounts at places you are unsure of. As identiy theft and selling of information is a massive buiness online.

9. Download a complete internet protection suite. I highly recommend Kapersky’s Internet Security full suite. It will protect you against anything and everything malicious online.

10. Download Peerguardian and Protowall. They block millions of unsafe IPs from yours. It is normally used for torrents, but the libary of known hacker ip’s held within and useful to have.
