Bijoux et Minéraux. Scenes From The Free People Office. It’s been a while since we’ve posted some scenes from the office, because it’s been a quiet couple of weeks with the holiday and people on vacation. But, we’re back and in full-on holiday mode, if you can’t tell from these photos of our lobby… our display team did such an amazing job decorating! Test shot of tour homemade cornucopia that we made and shot for the email Free People sent out on Thanksgiving :). Scouting a location. The Navy Yard is so pretty in the fall. More scenes from the office right this way. :) Tags: décor, free people home office, holiday, holiday decorations, office scenes. DIY Holiday Mobile. There’s something really sweet and whimsical about mobiles, and they make such wonderful decorations – particularly around the holidays! I’ve been saving lots of inspiration for a holiday mobile and finally got around to making one. It would make a beautiful decoration hanging above a dinner table or simply in front of a window, catching the light!

What I love about this project is that there really aren’t any rules, you can make it up as you go along and add your own special touches to make it unique to you. Here’s how I made mine, maybe it will inspire you to make one as well! What you need: This depends entirely on what you want your mobile to look like, but for mine I used a branch, some white feathers, pine cones, clear fillable ornaments, glue and gold glitter. All of these supplies can be found at your local craft store! I painted the branch gold first to go with the color scheme of this mobile, but it would look pretty in its natural state too!

Photos by Julia. DIY Birch Bark Lamps. I have no words to describe how excited I am to make this DIY project myself. If you loved these birch bark pendant lamps from this truly woodsy Michigan wedding, today you’re in luck. I will leave you with Nora, the bride: Our birch tree lanterns came from an idea that evolved down from hollowed-log lights we had seen in Finland and attempted to make them ourselves. View all lamps and more images from their wedding in the gallery! Supply list: twine or fishing linebarkutility knifeleather punch60 watt lightbulbs14 gauge electrical wire and sockets or pendant lamp kits (available at local hardware stores or at Ikea) Instructions: From Nora: One of my brother’s neighbors peeled the birch bark off of a dead birch tree he had seen.

The lamps were wired together along a really long piece of 14 gauge lamp wire, outfitted with 60 watt incandescent bulbs. A few tips: You can use hot glue instead of stitching the lampshade ends if you intend to use these them for decoration only without lightbulbs. DIY Natural Dyes – How To Make Natural Dyes. Update: This post originally ran on September 21st 2011 but we wanted to bring it back as a reminder of how fun and environmentally friendly natural dyes are! It’s time to share the results of my natural dye experiment! This was such a fun project – I definitely recommend it as a great rainy day activity :) For my first experiment I used beets, onion skins and spinach.

While the spinach did not work (as one reader also mentioned after my previous post) I was really pleased with the beets and onion skins! The beets were such a beautiful deep red color! I chopped them up and added water and when I started boiling the water turned red almost immediately. For the onions, I peeled off the skins and used only that part – I have seen other examples of this online that yielded really nice results but I was actually doubtful that this would really work. I had high hopes for the spinach… if anyone has tried this with spinach and gotten good results let me know what your secret is :)

DIY Wire Crown – How To Make A Wire Crown. UPDATE: This post originally ran on November 7th 2012 but we think these would make super cute accessories for holiday parties and New Year’s Eve so we brought it back! In the spirit of our November catalog, for today’s DIY I wanted to do something whimsical and inspired by fairy tales, that would make for a fun accessory this holiday season. I fell in love with the idea of making wire crowns to wear for holiday parties or just for fun this season, and it turns out they’re very easy to make! They also bring out that inner child who still wants to be a princess :). What you need: wire, pliers, and scissors. The wire I used is 20 gauge medium temper wire that I got from A.C. Start by making the base of the crown.

Next, cut several smaller pieces of wire, all the same length. Use the pliers to fold up the ends of the crown points as pictured. Hook the ends of the point under the base wire, and use the pliers to wrap the ends around the base wire to keep the point in place. Photos by Julia. House & Bike. Decor Crush – Home Decor Ideas – Terrariums. Usually a crush is relatively short-lived; a few short days… maybe a couple months, max. Nope. Not my crush on terrariums. These little ecosystems are beyond appealing to me.

The way that life in a terrarium can carry on its existence with little or no help from the outside world is just so cool! Not to mention the fact that terrariums can be made with the prettiest of plants in the coolest of glass containers – and that they’re so easy to make (here’s our terrarium DIY, in case you haven’t seen it)! My little terrarium infatuation has led me to countless hours of terrarium-infused internet searches. If you’re like me, these photos may just help you get that terrarium fix: More home decor ideas on BLDG 25! Tags: decor crush, terrarium, terrariums. DIY Desktop Dream Catchers.

We’re always looking for fun ways to decorate our desk spaces at work, and these mini dream catchers do just that! I was inspired to make them after seeing these incredible beauties that our store display team made for our Costa Mesa store: Brigette happened to have some leftover fabric from her reupholstered chair that I was able to cut little pieces of, and it worked perfectly. This is also a great project to use old crochet or vintage doilies for! The only other thing you need are twigs from a twig wreath, which I got at A.C. Moore. I just pulled it apart and used a small section of it. Using a needle and thread, sew the crochet doily to the twig wreath using each point of the doily, and wrapping the thread around the twigs so you’re simultaneously holding the twigs together as well.

For the pieces hanging down from the dream catcher, I used thin strips of fabric and attached them to the twigs with a needle and thread. The result is a very shabby-chic dream catcher, don’t you think?
