Tiny countries that pack a big punch

The 195- hectare independent state, which lies on an exceptionally picturesque, narrow coastal strip, has long been a tax refuge for the spectacularly rich and famous. Actress Grace Kelly, who married Monaco’s Prince Rainier, is buried in the cathedral in the heart of the wonderfully preserved Monaco-Ville old town.

Top 10 things to do in Amsterdam for travel snobs

Like this Post? So you’ve seen all the museums and art galleries, and now the red light district and the coffee shops are starting to grate. If you want to discover a little more from this great city then here are ten of our favourite things to do in Amsterdam for travel snobs… 1. Explore one of the best streets in town Herenstraat was our favourite street in the Jordaan district, although the whole of the Jordaan area should be explored if you have the time. 2. This place has the feel of an old curiosity shop from a different era. 3. If you’re looking for a traditional Brown cafe/bar to mingle with the locals then try Cafe Kobalt. 4. This large square is one of the oldest parts of Amsterdam. 5. The Vesper cocktail bar is another great place in the Jordaan area (can you see a pattern forming here?)

6. 7. Humphrey’s restaurant bridges the gap between a good value eatery and a trendy restaurant. 8. 9. Saklikent Gorge Canyon near Fethiye: Through the river to the canyon. Through the river to the canyon This is the website of travel writer, Michael Turtle.

Saklikent Gorge Canyon near Fethiye: Through the river to the canyon

After working in broadcast journalism for a decade in Australia, Michael left Sydney to travel the world indefinitely and write about his discoveries. Saklikent Gorge, Turkey Crashing through the water, fighting the strong current of the river, I hold on tight to my bag. My shoes are soaking, my shorts are getting wetter by the second and the chill in my legs is creeping up to a point where it could become very uncomfortable.

I’m at Saklikent Gorge, a natural beauty about 50 kilometres from the Turkish city of Fethiye. After paying the entrance fee, I had walked along a narrow pathway along the side of the canyon to a beach area. I had contemplated just stopping, to be honest. Saklikent Gorge is about 300 metres deep and stretches out for 18 kilometres. The water is shallow and slow-moving in these parts. Some of the Turkish families seem to have been here before.
