Home | Glyndebourne. Pražské jaro | 12/5 - 2/6/2013. Prague Spring in 2013 with French charm To be added next year to the list of foreign ensembles given the honor of opening Prague Spring with Smetana’s Má vlast will be the Orchestre Philharmonique de Radio France with the Canadian conductor Peter Oundjian. Further emphasizing the French tone during the festival will be the famed Ensemble intercontemporain as well as the conductors Jean-Claude Casadesus and Emmanuel Villaume and the violin virtuoso Augustin Dumay.

Works will be heard from the French musical literature by composers such as César Frank, Maurice Ravel and François Poulenc, for whom next year will be the 50th anniversary of his death. Also returning with a Mozart programme is London’s Academy of St. Martin in the Fields and the conducting pianist Murray Perahia, and Leif Ove Andsnes’s Beethoven project with the Mahler Chamber Orchestra will be continuing. Giving solo recitals will be the pianists Garrick Ohlsson and András Schiff. In collaboration with General Partner. Bregenz Festival | Pressfoyer. In the 2014 festival season, the last in my wonderful time in Bregenz, we will be turning our attention to wealth, poverty, charm, corruption, high spirits and neuroses, cultivatedness and deviancy, sensibility and sentimentality, friendliness and falsity – in a word, the many-layered antitheses of Austria's legendary capital, Vienna.

Bregenz seems to me a good place from which to reflect on the city because, within Austria's borders, the Vorarlberg provincial capital lies at the furthest possible remove from Vienna. This gives Bregenz the advantage of being able to reach Vienna with a long spoon and sup from its – sometimes oversweet – honey pot. The Magic Flute is, of course, a wonderfully sweet Viennese relict, yet there are some exceedingly bitter moments in it too. As I have always stressed, the opera, though famed for its charm and humour, also contains two suicide attempts and one attempted rape. Vienna is often described as a city with two faces.
