The Hywind concept combines known technologies in a completely new setting and opens up the possibility for capturing wind energy in deep-water environments.

Hywind – the world’s first full-scale floating wind turbine

The core expertise acquired by Statoil as a leading operator of offshore oil and gas fields has played a very important part in the development of the Hywind concept. The floating structure consists of a steel cylinder filled with a ballast of water and rocks. It extends 100 metres beneath the sea’s surface and is attached to the seabed by a three-point mooring spread. Steelcase - Büromöbel, Büroausstattung, Büroeinrichtung, Schreibtisch. The Andasol solar power station is Europe's first commercial parabolic trough solar thermal power plant, located near Guadix in Andalusia, Spain.

Andasol Solar Power Station

Its name is a combination of Andalusia and Sol (Sun in Spanish). The Andasol plant uses tanks of molten salt to store solar energy so that it can continue generating electricity even when the sun isn't shining. Description[edit] Andasol is the first parabolic trough power plant in Europe, and Andasol 1 went online in March 2009. Because of the high altitude (1,100 m) and the semi-arid climate, the site has exceptionally high annual direct insolation of 2,200 kWh/m² per year.[3] Each plant has a gross electricity output of 50 megawatts (MWe), producing around 165 gigawatt-hours (GW·h) per year (21 MW·yr per year).

Andasol has a thermal storage system which absorbs part of the heat produced in the solar field during the day. Rationale[edit] Developers[edit] Satellite images of the site. See also[edit] References[edit] eBay Green Box Bags Exposure for Reusable Packaging. It is funny how things work.

eBay Green Box Bags Exposure for Reusable Packaging

The reusables industry has been toiling for years and years to raise awareness about reusable packaging. Now, in a single announcement, eBay has generated a tsunami of publicity about reusable transport packaging with the introduction of its new reusable box. For example, a key word search comprised of “eBay reusable box” as of today has generated around 314,000 Google search results, versus only 294,000 for the much more mature term of “reusable packaging.” The reusable box in question is the eBay reusable box, designed by the eBay Green Team. eBay has purchased 100,000 of them in three sizes for a pilot test. By eBay calculations, if every box gets reused at least five times, it could protect nearly 4,000 trees, save 2.4 million gallons of water and conserve enough energy to power 49 homes for a year. eBay buyers who receive the box are encouraged to use it to ship items they sell on eBay.

The concept came to life very quickly. Road Energy Systems: Heat from the Street. Depending on the level of activity, the human body generates about 60 to 100 Watts of energy in the form of heat, about the same amount of heat given off by the average light bulb.

Road Energy Systems: Heat from the Street

All day, every day, the body is switched on. About 250,000 human light bulbs hurry through Stockholm Central Station each day, burning brightly as they rush to catch trains, giving off enough heat to raise the temperature of the cavernous building to a constant 22-25 degrees Celsius (71-77 degrees Fahrenheit). This is too warm, and so the station uses power to cool the air inside. Inventors of the Sustainable Dance Floor. S Sunshine to Petrol project to chemically transform carbon dioxide into carbon-neutral liquid fuels - December 5, 2007. FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE December 5, 2007 Sandia’s Sunshine to Petrol project seeks fuel from thin air Team to chemically transform carbon dioxide into carbon-neutral liquid fuels Sandia researcher Rich Diver assembles a prototype device intended to chemically reenergize carbon dioxide into carbon monoxide, which ultimately could become the building block to synthesize a liquid combustible fuel.

The prototype device, called the Counter Rotating Ring Receiver Reactor Recuperator (CR5, for short), will break a carbon-oxygen bond in the carbon dioxide to form carbon monoxide and oxygen in two distinct steps. The Sandia research team calls this approach “Sunshine to Petrol” (S2P). Sandia is a National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA) laboratory.
