Government National government grants for small businesses come from both the UK government but also the Scottish Parliament, Welsh and Northern Ireland Assemblies and each of these has its own departments and agencies, which hand out the money based on their own criteria and objectives. There are over 100 of these bodies but among the most important are: European The European Union is a huge source of funds for businesses of all sizes, and the money is usually distributed through the European Commission. Clients were companies that were based on new and innovative technology with ideas that had strong potential and once in the market, were capable of rapid growth and returns of many multiples of their original investment. The fund provided investment from £50k to £500k over the lifetime of those companies that show the most commercial potential. The East Midlands Early Growth Fund is a seed venture capital fund that invests in exciting start-up and early-stage businesses in the East Midlands, or businesses planning to relocate to the region. As a ‘seed’ fund we expect to be the first institutional investor in a company, and can invest up to £100,000 in the seed round, followed by another £100,000 at least six months later, and in exceptional circumstances, we may invest another £300,000 to prevent dilution.

The East Midlands Early Growth Fund provides ‘matching’ finance. Every £1 we invest must be matched or exceeded by investment from the private sector, such as a business angel or another early stage venture capital firm.
