So, back to business…. although we’re experimenting more with Untargeted Input at my school, we’re still using common themes in levels 1 and 2. As Rita Barrett calls it, we’re doing Targeted Lite: our classes have the same theme, but no mandated vocabulary list. It’s working for us: I love that it frees me up to focus on my kiddos’ responses, rather than focus on a vocab list! Right now with my little darlings, we’re talking about Familia, and here are some of the Comprehensible Input activities we’ve been having fun with: Visual Lecture Fortunately, my family is crazy with multiple step moms and step dads, so we started out with my wildly complicated family tree.

Standby activities. Things can sometimes go wrong at school.

Standby activities

The computer doesn't work, you have to teach a lesson you weren't expecting, you didn't get time to plan that lesson you intended to, the photocopier broke down so you couldn't print those worksheets, you're covering for a colleague and no work was set, the ICT room was double booked. I'm sure you can identify with some or all of those! That's when you need fall-back or standby activities you can call upon, lessons which you know will work and can be adapted to various levels. So here are ten I would recommend which you could include in your toolbox (oops, I used an "in" word there).1. Jacques a ditThis is Simon Says and it is a hit at all levels. Manger le morceau - Lawless French Idiom

Unless maybe the morceau is meant to be a piece of some sort of truth serum. The variations seem more logical: cracher le morceau – literally, "to spit (out) the piece"lâcher le morceau – “to let go of the piece” Par exemple… Be sure to use the definite article, as the indefinite changes the meaning completely: manger un morceau – “to have a bite to eat.” Untitled. Foreign Language Number and Color Practice Activity. I’m always looking for ways to reinvent materials that I already have in new and interactive ways.

Foreign Language Number and Color Practice Activity

Many times we as teachers don’t need to reinvent the wheel, we just have to find new ways to spin it. This is a quick set-up activity that requires almost no prep and gives students numerous opportunities to practice saying colors and numbers in the target language. There is also an opportunity for students to practice some simple math. I use a deck of UNO cards minus all the special cards (Reverse, Skip, etc.). Only the number cards are used in the activity. Students play in groups of 2-4 and lay out the cards with the numbers facing down. Each player takes a turn choosing two cards, they do not have to match in number or color. Boom Cards.
