Adobe Flash manipulates vector and raster graphics to provide animation of text, drawings, and still images. It supports bidirectional streaming of audio and video, and it can capture user input via mouse, keyboard, microphone, and camera. Flash contains an object-oriented language called ActionScript and supports automation via the JavaScript Flash language (JSFL). Flash content may be displayed on various computer systems and devices , using Adobe Flash Player , which is available free of charge for common web browsers , some mobile phones and a few other electronic devices (using Flash Lite ). Java applets are used both to create interactive visualisations and to present video, three dimensional objects and other media.

The Future of RIAs is HTML5

This isn't simply your father's Ajax code and it's not just for the future - it's actually present reality, thanks to native web application frameworks like Sproutcore. Sproutcore is comprehensive Javascript/HTML5 framework and it's open sourced. It's important to understand that Sproutcore isn't simply a widget library like JQuery but rather a well designed, full featured framework for building RIAs. It employs a client-side model-view-controller paradigm (MVC) and provides additional features like property bindings, event handling, and client side store w/ object-relational mappings. http://www.ebizq.net/blogs/cloudtalk/2010/08/the_future_of_rias_is_html5.php

Designing Web Interfaces

By Theresa Neil As Bill mentioned in an earlier post, we don’t want to limit this blog to just the principles and patterns found in the book. For that you can check out our Explore the Book section. Unfortunately, no single RIA framework offers all 30 of these. So I included a checklist of which frameworks provide each control. If you have an addition or correction, please e-mail me, and I will post an updated framework/control matrix.
