Shelter with spirit - Artful and environmentally responsible choices in non profit shelter renovation [Grants]
Grants Shelter with spirit provides small grants to partner non profit organizations which are active in the construction and renovation of homes for the economically disadvantaged in Central Texas. These grants are intended to enable needy families to avail themselves of green building technology consistent with standards established by the City of Austin “Green building program.” For example, SWS may partner with a non profit community development corporation that is interested in using low VOC (volatile organic compounds), or no VOC paints, sealers and stains to ensure that the indoor air quality is more healthful for client families. Generally, grants require only an application form , a brief letter describing the project, and a budget with a budget narrative. The application form will require the following information:Many nonprofit organizations lack the sufficient IT infrastructure, staff, and budget to enable efficient business processes using technology. Most small to mid-sized organizations leverage leftover and out-dated computer systems obtained through donations from organizations who recently upgraded to new technology. These nonprofit organizations must rely on non-experienced student interns, volunteers who are technical, or pay for service to implement IT systems. Systems that are setup by different people with different IT acumen tend to be “hodge-podge,” non-efficient, and decrease productivity. Any organization that brings smiles to sick kids, feeds the hungry, or helps rebuild shattered lives should not have to worry about technology services expenses.
