Gary Hamilton is one lucky man — "the luckiest guy in the world," if you ask him.
The seasoned television reporter for the New York Yankees woke up for work Saturday to discover his wife, Jennifer, had orchestrated quite the birthday surprise on social media. He calls her Jenn, and she's not on Facebook or Instagram or Twitter. Jenn spent the previous night taping fliers emblazoned with Gary's smile and a loving message asking strangers to send birthday wishes to him on Instagram and Twitter. "She wrote, 'He's seriously the best,' but the real truth is that she is," Gary, 32, told Mashable on Sunday as birthday tweets and Instagram photos of the thoughtful flier continued to trickle into his notification feeds from people he's never met and likely never will.
Gary's photo, above, describing the surprise has been favorited nearly 10,000 times. University of Pennsylvania grad student and blogger Lindsay Rule recently hitchhiked across the US using only social media and online networks, as part of a partnership between Architizer and Audi’s Urban Future Initiative. Rule’s assignment was to travel across the country – from Boston to San Francisco - without spending any money (ok, there was a $100 emergency fund) by using social media to coordinate free rides and places to stay.
Rule used a combination of Facebook, Craigslist, Ridejoy (a ridesharing service), and CouchSurfing — plus some old-fashioned in-person social networking (aka people skills). The trip was completely unplanned, relying on digital networks and the kindness of strangers. According to Rule, ”This would have been impossible without social media.” Rule blogged about her journey daily on Architizer, and her posts were featured on the Audi Urban Future Initiative Facebook page.

After yesterday's report that Apple has been ordering 4-inch screens (or larger) for its next generation iPhone, Reuters chips in today Saying the same thing. Citing sources familiar with the situation, Reuters claim the new iPhone's screen will be exactly 4-inches from corner to corner. It's still unknown whether the aspect ratio will stay the same (Apple could possibly fit a 4-inch screen into an iPhone 4/4S' case), and any other details about the device are absent. "Early production" of these new screens has begun at Korea's LG Display Co Ltd, Sharp Corp and Japan Display Inc, sources claim, with full production starting as soon as June, which is traditionally the time when Apple unveils new iPhone versions.

The band OK Go is known for its imaginative and original videos, and its latest, for "Needing/Getting", is no exception. This time the folks from OK Go played the instruments used in the song - with a car.
They outfitted a Chevy Sonic with retractable pneumatic arms, and then drove it around with the arms hitting more than 1,000 actual instruments posted on the side of the road in a desert near Los Angeles. What makes the entire project really amazing (and a bit crazy) is the fact that the entire stunt was not only about the visual side of things: the instruments were actually producing sounds. For example, "each piano had the lowest octaves tuned to the same note so that they'd play the right note no matter where they were struck," says the band in the video description on YouTube.
The video took four months of preparation and four days of shooting and recording, and parts of the video were used in Chevrolet's Chevy Sonic ad, which premiered during the Super Bowl Sunday. The Blue Post - the latest news from SEO, Social Media and Technology. Nintendo Announces Online Gaming Network. Nintendo users will finally soon have an online experience on par with Xbox Live and PlayStation Network. At least that's the message from Nintendo president Satoru Iwata, who broke the news in a meeting with investors yesterday shortly after the company released its quarterly earnings.
Iwata's presentation explained that the Nintendo Network would encompass the company's next generation of products, including the portable 3DS and the Wii U console, to be released later this year. The network won't just be a place where users can play games against each other online — Iwata said it would also offer full downloads of game titles, some add-ons and access to other digital content. That would be a big upgrade from the limited network connectivity that currently exists on Nintendo's hardware. Iwata pointed out the new community functions in Mario Kart 7, which is already available, as the first example of the new network's capabilities.
