Facebook announced a major overhaul of privacy and publishing controls on user profiles, plus new tagging and sharing functionality. These changes mean that the strategy for reaching a desired audience will change. In addition to tagging both friends and non-friends, users will be able to tag content with location data. More importantly, deals won’t require a check-in, gaining more exposure as a result. People won’t only see deals when they’re in the vicinity of a business, but well before arrival and long after departure from the area.

Marketers will be able to offer a wider variety of deals, both ones that require redemption right away, and longer-term offers; campaigns could span offers at the point of sale and appeals to people who’ve already completed a transaction. Another plus for advertisers: Location tags in the news feed will make deals appear in more users’ news feeds. That will make deals more visible and engaging. Facebook Offers Mix Gains New Entrant: eGain. Consumer offers are a widely used marketing tactic on Facebook, and eGain becomes the latest entrant into that arena. The company provides customer-interaction software onsite and via cloud, is hoping to occupy some of the estimated 700 billion minutes per month users spend on Facebook with targeted offers, coupons, promotions, and surveys aimed at promoting interaction between brand pages on the social network and their fans and prospective customers.

In addition to offers, consumers can access personalized content and contextual help including frequently asked questions, chatbots, chats, click to call, and co-browse options. On the brand side of things, eGain Offers can be implemented simply by adding a tag to the website code, and eGain provides testing tools and analytics. And eGain Offers is integrated with other applications from the service provider. The National Labor Relations Board’s Acting General Counsel today released a report detailing the outcome of investigations into 14 cases involving the use of social media and employers’ social and general media policies. In releasing the document, Acting General Counsel Lafe Solomon said, "I hope that this report will be of assistance to practitioners and human resource professionals. " Each case was submitted by regional offices to the NLRB’s Division of Advice in Washington, DC. In four cases involving employees’ use of Facebook, the Division found that the employees were engaged in "protected concerted activity" because they were discussing terms and conditions of employment with fellow employees.
