The “What’s What” in Facebook’s Latest Changes | A Classic Housewife in a Modern World. WOW! Facebook really threw us for a loop this time. So many changes all at once have left many of us confused and wondering exactly how it works, and more importantly, where it has left our privacy settings. I’m one of those Facebookers that tries to keep things as private as possible. I realize that my “private” Facebook is still technically a “public” place, but I like to stay on top of security and privacy settings and make use of all the checkboxes and options that Facebook gives us to keep our content close at hand. The News Feed The short story on the news feed is that Facebook has combined the previous “Top News” and “Recent Posts” on one page. 1.)

Sometimes you log in and there’s a dozen Top Stories followed by a series of “Recent Posts” followed by “Earlier Posts.” Here’s the deal. Also, you can influence the Top Stories — which is a feature we didn’t have before. 2.) From what I’m hearing about the new “Ticker,” you either love it or you hate it. 3.) Whoah, Facebook, TMI!!

Facebook Adds “Friends Not on a List” View to the Friend Lists Editor. Some users can now select to see all of their “Friends Not on a List” as part of Facebook’s Friend Lists interface. The new addition helps users ensure that all their friends have been assigned to a list to which content can be hidden from or made visible. For instance, it allows users to see if all of their sensitive family or professional contacts have been added to a list from which they hide their photos or status updates. However, it’s not clear how many people might make use of the feature. Facebook has stated in the past that only 5% of users take advantage of Friend Lists, and it’s likely that an even smaller fraction of people list enough of their friends for this to be useful. Users part of this test or who are first in this gradual rollout will see the “Friends Not on a List” option below their other lists in the Friend List editor’s left sidebar.

It has also become another powerful Facebook marketing tool for businesses, who can design campaigns around the checkin service to build awareness, grow their fan base and engage and reward customers. Each time a Facebook user checks in to a particular location on Facebook Places, Facebook broadcasts the checkin to that user’s friends' news feeds. This is not only viral marketing for the company — it also allows businesses to provide incentives for people to come to their physical locations or events.

Like in the “real” world, on Facebook, Friend Lists are a very private concept. Has Facebook made the problem of limiting access to certain info easy for everyone with this release?
