Absolute Sownage. A concise history of recent Sony hacks Sat Jun 4 04:17:33 CDT 2011 Security Curmudgeon Over the last two months, the multi-national Sony Corporation has come under a wide range of attacks from an even wider range of attackers. The backstory about what event prompted who to attack and why will make a mediocre made-for-TV movie someday. This article is not going to cover the brief history of hacks; readers can find details elsewhere. Other than Steve Ragan and The Tech Herald, most recent articles about Sony make vague references to ongoing problems, but do not enumerate the full history. One thing should be noted; the attacks against Sony are not coordinated, nor are they advanced. If anyone... That said, welcome to the recently coined term, "Sownage". Note: This table does not count any Denial of Service (DoS) attacks against Sony as an incident. La plateforme est restée indisponible de longues heures. Sony a semble t-il fait le choix de tout débrancher pour enrayer l’attaque… C’est un choix, ce n’était pas la seule solution et nous allons y revenir un peu plus loin. Suite à cette intrusion, des milliers de comptes, incluant emails et passwords des abonnés ont fait leur apparition sur Pastebin. Pire, des quantités astronomiques d’informations bancaires se sont également retrouvées sur le même site. Nous avions déjà vu que Pastebin est un espace collaboratif principalement destiné aux développeurs, mais que ce dernier a largement été détourné pour devenir une véritable place de marché pour certaines activités pas toujours très nettes.

Ce qui peut en revanche laisser un peu plus perplexe, ce sont 2 points très précis : SOE(Sony Online Entertainment) Hacked – Almost 13,000 Credit Card Details Leaked. Sony are having a really bad time at the moment, some may say karma, with PSN being down for two weeks you would think that Sony has had a enough “punishment”, but it seems not, as news emerges that SOE(Sony Online Entertainment) was closed down today, due to a security breach, Sony believe this breach, happened around the same time as the PSN breach, here is a quote from the press release: SONY ONLINE ENTERTAINMENT ANNOUNCES THEFT OF DATA FROM ITS SYSTEMS Breach Believed to Stem From Initial Criminal Hack of SOE Tokyo, May 3, 2011 – Sony Corporation and Sony Computer Entertainment announced today that their ongoing investigation of illegal intrusions into Sony Online Entertainment LLC (SOE, the company) systems revealed yesterday morning (May 2, Tokyo time) that hackers may have stolen SOE customer information on April 16th and 17th, 2011 (PDT).
