Herbal Remedies for Autism | autismone.org. Autism Treatments: Anti-Fungal Treatments. We know that poor bowel ecology - common in autistic children - often promotes the overgrowth of fungi and other microbes. These microbes can be involved in autism, as fungal metabolites are often found in the urine of autistic children. Many children with autism respond to anti-fungal treatment, and score high for yeast and anaerobic bacteria on such tests as the Comprehensive Digestive Stool Analysis test, available at the Great Plains Laboratory or Great Smokies Laboratory.

We also know that fungi can make hallucinogenic substances. LSD, for instance, is derived from ergot, and psilocybin from mushrooms. There is evidence that a form of yeast, candida albicans, may cause autism and may exacerbate many behavior and health problems in autistic individuals, especially those with late-onset autism. Candida-caused autism? Treatments: Behavioural. Treatment Overview TEACCH (Treatment and Education of Autistic and Related Communication Handicapped Children) is a state funded program in North Carolina developed by Dr. Eric Schopler in the early 1970's. TEACCH focuses on the child as the priority rather than any philosophical position like inclusion, discrete trial training, facilitated communication, etc. TEACCH emphasizes individualized assessment to understand the individual with autism and adjust the programming to suit.

This is different from imposing or dictating a model of "normal" behaviour for everyone and requiring people with autism to fit into the mold whether that is comfortable for them or not. TEACCH uses an evaluation tool called the Psycho Education Profile (PEP) in order to begin therapy at the appropriate level, and it structures the teaching in the best way to promote learning and independence. Cultivating strengths and interests rather than drilling solely on deficits is another important priority. Therapy Outcome. What's So Special About Remy's Room? When we realized at about 18 months that Jordyn's speech was not developing normally, and saw examples of him withdrawing, avoiding eye contact, and engaging in repetitive behaviors, we turned to the medical community for help.

Shortly after his second birthday Jordyn was diagnosed on the Autistic Spectrum. While waiting Jordyn was getting some speech therapy and an occupational therapist was visiting with him periodically. But it appeared that where we lived in Orangeville, that was all that was available. It appealed to us for three reasons, first it offered hope of recovery something that we have found does happen (and not just through Son-Rise). Kelli and I also travelled to Washington to attend a DAN conference. What struck us the strongest was the biomedical interventions that were being talked about. Jordyn continues to grow every day. It's been 6 months (that's half a year) since I attended the Start-Up Program at the Option Institute in Massachusetts.

How time flies, and how fast kids grow. During my time at the Option Institute, I had many ideas and excitement rushes through my veins to get our own Son-Rise Program started once I would get back to Canada. Then everyone (especially me) got sick with the flu or something violent. The momentum was somehow slowed. Then after husband transformed our bedroom into Remy's Room, the momentum seemed to return until sickness sprung up again, then March Break, then Remy ripping off the huge heavy mirror... excuses! The momentum was weak. Remy and I returned back to the Play Room two weeks ago, and the momentum is starting to gain some speed. DH mentioned to me on our first week back in the PR with Remy to take it easy so I don't "burn out" easily.

So, the trick is to plan my days with enough rest and relaxation. In Love and Light, and Goodnight, Son-Rise Program Wide Awake - The Ultimate Son-Rise Program Training Course - The Option Institute. The Son-Rise Program Blog: Creating & Sustaining Interactions with Your Child to Help Them to Become More Social. Autism is a social relational disorder. Creating and sustaining interactions with our children is a core factor in helping them become more social. What is an interaction? Well, an interaction could be anything from a tickle, to a board game, from you singing a song, to a conversation, from reading together, to wiping up a spilt drink together. The defining factor of an interaction isn’t the activity itself but instead, how your child shows up in that activity. Our children have a knack for being exclusive and can also appear like they are playing with us, when in fact, they are not.

Now, an interaction itself can also be varied in the way your child attends to you. You can have interactions that stop and start, stop and start. Some children need help deepening the quality of the interaction once they are in it. Some children also have the challenge of flitting from thing to thing to thing. Here are a few tips that will help you focus on your child's particular area of challenge:
