La peinture siennoise : Duccio di Buoninsegna. Sienne la gothique Mythiquement fondée par Senius, fils de Remus, Sienne est la cité de la Louve et de ses jumeaux. La position privilégiée qu’occupe la ville la destinait au Haut Moyen Age à tomber sous la domination de différents maîtres et ce n’est qu’en 1147 que l’Empereur a reconnu à la commune de Sienne le droit à un pouvoir politique propre. C’est à cette époque que la rivalité entre Sienne et Florence commença. Elle devait durer jusqu’à la moitié du XVIe siècle et se traduire par des guerres sanglantes entrecoupées par des brefs intervalles de paix. En 1260, la bataille de Montaperti avait été célébrée comme une victoire de l’empereur sur le pape – des Gibelins de Sienne sur les Guelfes de Florence.

Completed at the end of 2012, the 50,000-square-metre Antinori Winery was conceived as an invisible building whose body merges with the folds of the hillside. The tiered roof is entirely covered with farmland and a pair of sliced openings infilled with glass are all that reveal the presence of the structure. "The physical and intellectual construction of the winery pivots on the profound and deep-rooted ties with the land, a relationship which is so intense and suffered as to make the architectural image conceal itself and blend into it," says Archea Associati. The interior of the winery is divided into two main storeys. Circular openings pierce the roof and floors to bring light into the depths of the building.
