Skólaárið 2013-2014. Já er svarið. How to Discover Your Life Purpose in About 20 Minutes. How do you discover your real purpose in life?

How to Discover Your Life Purpose in About 20 Minutes

I’m not talking about your job, your daily responsibilities, or even your long-term goals. I mean the real reason why you’re here at all — the very reason you exist. Perhaps you’re a rather nihilistic person who doesn’t believe you have a purpose and that life has no meaning. Doesn’t matter. Not believing that you have a purpose won’t prevent you from discovering it, just as a lack of belief in gravity won’t prevent you from tripping.

Here’s a story about Bruce Lee which sets the stage for this little exercise. If you want to discover your true purpose in life, you must first empty your mind of all the false purposes you’ve been taught (including the idea that you may have no purpose at all). So how to discover your purpose in life? Here’s what to do: Take out a blank sheet of paper or open up a word processor where you can type (I prefer the latter because it’s faster).Write at the top, “What is my true purpose in life?” Feeling Stuck? 100 Ways to Change Your Life. Wise Bread Picks You've got 20 minutes to change your life in 100 ways.

Feeling Stuck? 100 Ways to Change Your Life

Go. This is the premise of an exercise I tried once, when I was feeling stuck in life. I wasn't sure what was amiss, but the routine I had fallen into was not satisfying the inner voice in me that insisted there was something else out there for me. (See also: Change Your Life With Storytelling) After trying (forcefully) to understand what was going on, reading self-help books, filling out aptitude tests, and working with business and life coaches, I was given a suggestion that became a catalyst for some pretty big personal changes.

Here is how you can change your life in 20 minutes, step by step: Clear all distractions. Something happens after about 10 or 15 minutes if you employ the exercise to its full potential. Ding! Leave the list alone for a day. The point of this exercise is not to create a giant and outlandish "to-do" list that never gets ticked off. Self-Discipline. This week I’ll be blogging a series on self-discipline.

Self-Discipline

New posts on this topic will appear every day Mon-Fri. I’ve also added a new self-discipline category. In this series I’ll be focusing on what I call the five pillars of self-discipline. The Five Pillars of Self-Discipline The five pillars of self-discipline are: Acceptance, Willpower, Hard Work, Industry, and Persistence. Each day of the series, I’ll explore one of these pillars, explaining why it’s important and how to develop it. Change Your Life with Storytelling. Wise Bread Picks The most powerful tool that marketers use to sell you things is one that you can snatch from their grasp and turn to your own use: Telling stories.

Change Your Life with Storytelling

I first discovered this tool back in the 1980s in the catalogs of Banana Republic and J. Peterman. Those catalogs, instead of describing the products they sold, described the sort of person who bought the item. As a marketing strategy, it was a great success: The catalogs would describe each item as the sort of thing that exciting, sophisticated people used in their thrilling adventures — and people bought it. The same technique is available to you. Flip the Technique At the most basic level, you can use stories as a magic shield against this sort of marketing: Spot the story in the advertising and tell yourself a more accurate story. All the story-telling tools that the marketers use are available for your own use. One in particular that I've seized upon is the technique of suggesting that some item is multi-purpose.
