Pidgin is a multi-protocol instant messaging client that allows you to connect to several IM networks at one time. Most Linux users will be familiar with Pidgin, as it is the default IM client in most distribution. Other than its basic functionality, Pidgin also has a plugin system that allows its users to activate plugins to extend its functionality. Today we’re taking a look at 10 of the best plugins to power up your Pidgin. 1) Facebook Chat
Pidgin is our favorite instant messaging application for Windows , not only for all its great built-in features, but for all the features you can add to it via plugins. It comes with a few built-in, but there are a ton of others out there if you know where to find them. Here are our favorites. Some of these plugins come baked in with Pidgin, and you don't need to download or install anything extra—you just need to turn them on under Tools > Plugins in Pidgin.. Others will require installation, which can vary from plugin to plugin. Sometimes they come with a Windows installer, but other times they'll just come as a set of folders or DLL files inside a ZIP file.

A couple months ago I wrote an article on how to theme Pidgin in Windows; Around the time Pidgin 2.7.0 was released GTK+ stand alone was removed from the package and replaced with private GTK+ Runtime making it a little more difficult to apply a theme to Pidgin. What you will need: Pidgin 2.7.0 (Note: if you plan on using an older version of Pidgin see This Article ) GTK+ ZIP software (7zip, or Windows zip manager should work.) Download: GTK+ Themes and GTK+ Theme Switcher Step 1: Install Pidgin Step 2: Extract the two zip files downloaded earlier to a temporary directory.
I wanted to write this post from a long time, finally, here it goes. I’ve been using pidgin, the multi protocol IM client for last 2-3 years. It’s one software I use everyday, and most of people on gnu/linux. The best part about pidgin is it’s plugins. With plugins, you can make it work exactly the way you want.
