Many Eyes: World Map. When to use a map The maps on Many Eyes can overlay data values on geographic regions. Use a map if you want to see spatial patterns in the data. How maps work The map displays data associated with geographic regions using either colors or bubbles. For example, you may want to compare revenue data for different countries. The map can also show categorical values (e.g., language spoken). Colors versus bubbles Colored maps are not always the best way to display values, since large regions are emphasized much more than small ones.
To switch the map between color and bubble modes, click the mode buttons in the map toolbar. Selecting regions To highlight a region, just click on it. Zooming Zoom in and out on the map using the mouse wheel or the buttons on the left side of the toolbar. Comparing maps To directly compare multiple columns in your dataset, create multiple views in the map and show them side-by-side.
Data requirements An example data set suitable for the world map is: Many Eyes: Tag Cloud. When to use a tag cloud A tag cloud is a visualization of word frequencies. Our tag cloud enables you to see how frequently words appear in a given text, or see the relationship between a column of words and a column of numbers.
The size of the word corresponds to the quantity associated with that word. For instance, if your data set is a plot summary of "The Godfather", you will be likely to see frequently-occurring words like "corleone" and "mafia" drawn in a larger size than words like "open" or "restaurant". How tag clouds works The Many Eyes tag cloud can show one of two kinds of data: free text, or a two-column table of tags and numbers. If you choose to use free text, the tag cloud will strip out punctuation, calculate the frequency of each word, and draw the word at a size that is based on its frequency.
Whenever the mouse is over a word, information about the occurrences of that word and the context it was used in will be shown in a tooltip. Search and selection Data requirements. Tianamo BETA demo -- 3D Information Visualization. SEO Linking Strategy - Part 1 of 4.
