This comes in tandem with the announcing of two new creative directors including Swizz Beatz as the Global Creative Director, and VERBAL as the Reebok Classics Asia Creative Director. Both parties were on hand in Tokyo last week for a Reethym of Lite event that helped launch an all out campaign from the signature running and sporting brand. We caught up with both parties to get their takes on Reebok as a brand and their upcoming roles within the company.

How did the opportunity come about? VERBAL: Long story short, I met some cool people from Reebok, just having drinks with them and telling them about my first basketball shoes: the Reebok Pumps. Swizz Beatz: The opportunity came about through mutual friends, they were looking to do something new and my name was on the list I guess. What does your job and role encompass? Innovative fitness design including Reebok’s ZigTech running shoe intersects with the artists’ creative visions. Returning to its roots, the brand has just unveiled this brand new special edition Classic Vintage pack for Fall/Winter 2011. Inspired by four of the legendary fitness silhouettes from the ’80s, the pack contains the Freestyle Hi, Workout Low Plus, Ex-O-Fit Hi and Classic Leather styles (the latter two are pictured above). From their ‘Nique pump, to the Stash-designed Pump to the standout Pump 20 model, the small Teaneck shop has stepped up their collaboration game. There are four more Court Victory Pumps to add to the list of collaborations with Reebok, one for each of the Grand Slam events. These will release during the corresponding tennis tournament, beginning with the model to honor the land down under very soon.

As these preview images suggest, each model has specific references to the place or court for the Slam. For the French Open model, the clay can be seen as a splatter pattern; for the US Open the colors of Arthur Ashe stadium court in Flushing, Queens gets some love; the grass is an obvious reference in the Wimbledon model; and the forthcoming AU model has references to the Australian flag.
