US McDonald's introduces fruit offering in every Happy Meal. McDonald's has launched the roll out of the automatic offering of fruit with every new Happy Meal, is scheduled to be in all Northern Nevada area (US) restaurants this week. Available nationwide by the first quarter of 2012, the new Happy Meal automatically includes apple slices as a side to the choice of Chicken McNuggets, a hamburger, or cheeseburger, and choice of beverage, in which fat-free chocolate milk and 1% white milk will be options.

In addition to Apple Slices, the meal also includes a new smaller size french fries. For those customers who prefer a side choice of apples only, two bags of apples will be available upon request. McDonald's has been offering apples as a requested Happy Meal choice since 2004, and while recent research found that 88% of McDonald's customers are aware of the option, the apples are chosen in only 11% of Happy Meal purchases. June 14th, 2011 In a landmark move for sustainability, McDonald’s has announced that over 13 million customers every day across Europe will be able to buy Marine Stewardship Council (MSC) certified sustainable fish in McDonald’s restaurants from October this year. The news comes as 7,000 McDonald’s restaurants across 39 European countries achieve certification to the MSC Chain of Custody traceability standard, as part of the company’s commitment to enhance its sustainable sourcing practices. Currently, over 50% of the world’s marine fish stocks are fully exploited. The MSC is an independent global organisation set up to tackle the problem of overfishing by recognising and rewarding sustainable fisheries through its certification and eco-labelling programme.
