" ISIS was the only scholarly organisation specifically established to study the chronology of ancient times.
Its multidisciplinary approach - combining archaeology, textual analysis and scientific dating techniques - has revealed new and fascinating insights into the history of the ancient world. It was founded in 1985 by a group of students and scholars of ancient history, and its related fields of study, who felt it was important to develop an interdisciplinary approach to the study of Man's ancient past. ISIS has published research on the great cultures of the ancient Mediterranean and Near East including Egypt and Nubia; Canaan, Philistia and Israel; Phoenicia and Syria; Assyria, Babylonia, Elam and Persia; Anatolia; Cyprus, Crete and Greece; and Italy, Sicily and Sardinia. Hyperboreus was founded by the Bibliotheca classica Petropolitana in 1994 as the first academic journal in Russia since the 1917 revolution specializing in the field of classical studies.
Scholars from the Classical Department of St. Petersburg State University, the St. Petersburg Institute of History (Russian Academy of Sciences) and St. Petersburg classical Gymnasium participated in the foundation of the journal. The aims of Hyperboreus are to advance the study of classical antiquity in Russia and to encourage international cooperation in this field by publishing original articles and reviews of books in Russian, English, German, French, Italian, and Latin.
Hyperboreus also aims at throwing light upon archaeological excavations of the classical sites on the Northern coast of the Black Sea region. Hyperboreus is edited in two annual fascicles. The Heritage of Egypt Magazine.
The Heritage of Egypt was launched in 2008 and is the first publication relating to the history, archaeology, and legacy of Egypt that is edited, produced, and owned in Egypt; this gives the publication a unique perspective on the complex histories of ancient and modern Egypt. The Heritage of Egypt is published three times a year, in January, May, and September. The magazine reaches thousands of readers through direct sales in Egypt and the provision of copies to archaeological societies in the United Kingdom.
