We offer two numbered sets of rubrics, a 5-Point and a 6-Point set. A 5-Point set for K-2 and 3-12, and a 6-Point set for K-2 and 3-12. Both sets are field tested, research-based and teacher friendly. The Beginning Writers’ Rubrics, whether 5 or 6-point, were created to support teachers and students as they are starting to write, beginning to build writing process classrooms, learning and building a common vocabulary and establishing a vision for good writing, while still developing the skills necessary to write.
Reflecting Upon Rubrics By stepping back and reflecting upon how writing includes thinking, listening, reading, planning, speaking, and drawing, we can see all sorts of possibilities for using the trait language with our youngest learners. 5-Point or 6-Point Rubrics – You Decide!
