Get flash to fully experience Pearltrees
by Kyle O'Connor on April 29, 2009 When you’re in the middle of the worst recession since the Great Depression, it’s not always easy to come up with the cash to impress your date. Luckily, there’s still tons of fun and romantic things you can do that take little-to-no money—all that’s required is a little creativity.
According to the "the rules," women sit by the phone waiting for men to call. Each woman then chooses a suitor to take her out on a date, or, eventually, to marry. I.e., the conventional wisdom is that "men court, then women choose." Reality is the opposite.
You see a lot of advice for picking up women given by guys- as resident femme on site, I’m here to tell you that this situation is fundamentally flawed. I’m not saying that a man will lead you wrong, but what you’re going to get is a lot of different approaches that work for different types of guys. At the end of the day, a lot of what you try isn’t going to match up with your personal style, and putting it into practice is going to burn harder than napalm in your shorts.
Fair warning: Consider your audience. You're no doubt too cool to ask a virtual stranger to name a favorite school supply (Question #8), but anyone can talk about a habit that was hard to break (Question #6) if the subject's introduced naturally into the conversation. If you're loathe to spring any of these questions on a date, e-mail them to the contacts in your address book for the latest round of Getting to Know Your Friends. What's your favorite Dr. Seuss book? If you could live in any home on a television series, what would it be?
