It was a first time client, and a first time team I worked with. Two models flew in from Oslo, the capital of Norway, one took the train from Kristiansand, and one came by car from Stavanger. They were all very nice, but with varying experience. The budget only allowed for semi-professional models, so that was obviously a restraint in the production. But one has to keep in mind that these models still expected to get paid more or less double of what I pay professional models in Bangkok, Thailand. My home country, Norway, is arguably the most expensive country in the world. The equipment I used was my Nikon D810 with my lightweight Nikkor 50mm 1.4. You also get used to the luxury of VR (vibration reduction) that this lens does not have. I decided to use a speedlight in the end, just to create a little pop on the subjects. It has been some nice days here in Norway, relaxing with family.
I have taken another group portrait of my nephews, and this has become a yearly endeavour. The summer sun in Norway is an absolute joy to work with, compared to Bangok. Just as I am starting this section on my portfolio site, my clothes are spread out on the bed, ready to be packed for my yearly trip home to Norway to see family and friends.
Summer time in Norway for me gives me time to relax, and do some of the things that I miss, while in here in Bangkok. There are many upsides to living in a big city, and as a professional photographer, you are more are less dependant on it, as you need to be where the commercial photography business happens. But the heat, the traffic, the air pollution and lack of nature scenery is not one of them. In Norway I will fish for salmon at my family’s summer house. We actually have a salmon river running along the edge of our garden.

It takes between 500 –1000 years for plastic to degrade. One million seabirds and 100.000 mammals die a slow death every year from oceanic plastic waste that they have mistaken for food and eaten. So it has been a while since I have had time to update the blog. The reason is simply that I have been very busy, in a good way. I have done a few campaign shoots, and directed and produced a video commercial in Dubai, to be shown in cinemas, TV, and on social media. I flew models and my camera man over to Dubai, where the partnering production house was waiting. I also rented a V8 Camaro (sports-car) for the shoot, and racked up almost 2000 USD in speeding tickets, which my gracious client luckily offered to pay for me.
So I made some money as well. Before I came in contact with professional fashion models, I actually never understood that it’s a profession to be respected. It is necessary to make a distinction, I feel, because there are a lot of wannabes that make the distinction less than clear. It has already been launched in Hong Kong, and soon also in Indonesia, Vietnam, The Philippines, and Thailand. I’m especially looking forward to when the images get plastered out over Bangkok, where I am currently at. As of now, I have only seen the photos covering buses in Hong Kong. I don’t know FWDs media buy exactly, but it’s pretty massive. Would be fun if they plaster the BTS lines running through Bangkok. I got to work with some amazing people, and a special thanks go to Kep from Media Monks.
“The campaign features 12 scenarios the difference that confidence can make to your life, no matter your age or stage in life. The campaign is called “Everyday Heroes”, and I think it is suitable. While in Bangkok I had been missing Norwegian nature. I was therefore very happy to go on a trip into the mountains with my girlfriend, my sister and her family. A the same time my new client confirmed the FW2018 campaign shoot in Norway, and I was about to assemble a local crew and move forward on this as well. Normally this would go smooth, but the photoshoot almost fell to pieces on account of my trip into the mountains. We planned to spend a night at a place called Kvitlen, which is a cabin in the beautiful Kvitladalen (valley) about 2 hours drive from my familys home. Another thing I have noticed while working with international clients in Thailand and the region, is that business is more cut throat, and people are more willing to screw each other over, lie, and take peoples money. I managed to put it aside in my mind and enjoy the rest of the trip.
