http://agentfx.blogspot.com/2009/07/fire-part-1.html Fire Part 1 from destruct007 on Vimeo . Here we start with the basics of fluid fire in maya. We just get the ball rolling, but it should be enough to get people well on their way to making fire, play with this setup and get to know it, understand how and why it moves. Next time we'll be pushing it further but when you make your own you'll need to know why things are moving the way they are. 90% of making fire will be knowing how to tweek it per-shot and per instance of your fire.

This is a product of over 5 years in the field and growing. Learning from some of the best in the industry along the way. My field is film effects and lighting but I specialise in particle effects in maya, so my site will mainly reflect that. But I want to cover alot of other important material here too, including nCloth, FluidFX, mel scripting, renderman and image based lighting (IBL). http://www.modernmayhem.com/home.html
OverBurn is a combination of particles, fluids and particleSamplerInfo nodes. It substitutes the default particleCloud shader with fluid one ( voxels ). As result, the final look of the particles is mutch better and believeble. Using this technique we can represent wider range of interesting volumetric effects like explosions, fireballs, dust, smoke, lava, ice, etc. The basic idea behind OverBurn is to have automated and flexible system, usefull in different situations. http://petershipkov.com/development/overburn/overburn.htm
