En 1947 il partait à la colonie Belge en tant qu’ officier naviguant. Il y faisait connaissance de Laurette Sips et l’épousait. Laurette Van Cauter, née au Congo a connut la période d’avant guerre et habitait dans le Katanga, province tranquille, riche, un véritable paradis sur terre ! Dans sa résidence transformée tant bien que mal dans le style congolais, il disserte avec passion sur le temps jadis.
