Microsoft warns on previously unseen IE bug. 18 September 2012Last updated at 11:54 GMT Major zero-day bugs are rare Microsoft has released a temporary software fix for a newly discovered bug in its Internet Explorer web browser.
The problem, which affects hundreds of millions of IE browser users, is being used by attackers to install the Poison Ivy trojan. This piece of malware is used to steal data or take remote control of PCs. Microsoft moved quickly to address the issue. So-called zero-day, or newly discovered, vulnerabilities are rare. The device's new size allows it to display an extra row of app icons on its home screen. The firm said it was 18% thinner and 20% lighter than the iPhone 4S. A Birmingham University study indicates that an illegal file-sharer downloading popular content would be logged by a monitoring firm within three hours. Sonic cooker uses sound waves to reduce energy poverty. A team of engineers led by the UK's University of Nottingham have created a new stove which not only cooks food but also generates electricity.
The device uses thermo-acoustic technology originally developed by the U.S.'s Los Alamos National Laboratory. Waste heat from the stove produced during food preparation is used power the acoustic engine, producing sound waves in excess of 170 decibels (more than the Space Shuttle taking off). Broadcasts in 8K will offer a resolution of 7,680 by 4,320 pixels - roughly the equivalent of a 32 megapixel photo. That is 16 times as sharp as current HD TVs offering about 2MP resolutions. Japanese broadcaster NHK showed off the technology in London during the Olympics, where audiences said it gave them a sense of being at the events.
