Crash Restraint. When attaching support lines to a harness for suspension, I use a novel method that people frequently ask me about, and I've been meaning to document for a long time. Serendipitously, I ran into Kali from Kink Academy a few months ago at Wicked Grounds, and she asked me to film some instructional videos for them on suspension -- so I managed to slip this in there, and they've graciously agreed to allow me to use screenshots from those videos to illustrate a blog post here.
This method was inspired by the Tatu hitch , during a Fetlife discussion whose details are now murky in my memory -- in any case credit is due both Tatu and Jack Elfrink for making me aware of that knot, upon which this is based. Things needing names, and this technique using the first half of a Tatu hitch, I suppose we could call it the half-Tatu hitch. Thanks also to Mecha-Kate for modeling for these. It is my favorite to tie. Notice the design between the breasts. It is called a "Hon Kikkou". "Hon" simply means "original" and "kikkou" is the Japanese word for "tortoise" which describes a 6 sided pattern as seen on the shell of a tortoise. Please Note: Unfortunately the word "kikkou" has been misused in the west to describe diamond shaped patterns on the body which would more accurately be called a "hishi".

Nemuri shibari This is a variation I came up with while wanting a tie that could be done in bed without having to pass rope under the body while the person being tied is lying face down. I’ve called this nemui shibari because I happened to know that 眠い(nemui) is the Japanese for sleepy. This may btw. be a terrible name for this but it’s what I made up off the top of my head because the tie was thought up while tying someone who was sleepy. My sincere thanks to Hajime Kinoko san for correcting my Japanese in the naming of this tie. The first time I taught this tie was at the London festival of the art of Japanese bondage. It’s not often that you get to show a tie to the Japanese so I was very happy to be able to do so.

Using two quarter inch 30 foot ropes (6mm thickness 9 meters long), we'll create two flat bands just below the waist, and one flat band around each thigh. The thigh bands are below the crotch to avoid pressure on the femoral artery (reducing the chance of Harness Hang Syndrome). Although we'll show the handles being tied on the back of the body for a face-down suspension, the same tie can be used to make handles on the front of the body for a face-up suspension or on the side of the hip for a sideways suspension. I have previously posted two TK variations designed to transfer load from the arms to the chest. I won't repeat the justification for why you might want this, but will briefly remind you: these ties are hopefully safer than traditional variations, but still may be highly dangerous, particularly if misused; pay careful attention, use good judgment, and above all seek qualified in-person instruction before attempting to use these for suspension.

Step 3 - Tuck the longer loose running end and tuck it under all of the rope. Step 4 - Pull the running end around the standing rope to begin forming a bar wrap. Step 5 - Wrap the running end around the bulk of the standing end leaving the end of the original bight poking out of the wraps. Step 6 - Continue wrapping until you reach the other end. Step 7 - Tuck the running end through both of the bights.

Permalink: Codes: Feet Rope The Diamond Foot Cuff Mick developed the Diamond Foot Cuff in 2004, based on a tie seen in one of our earliest galleries, Rope Bondage: Ankle Binding (Dec. 2003). This three-wrap ankle tie is eerily similar to the Gravity Boot later documented by Jack Elfrink.
Jack told me that the the three-wrap version he describes had been used in Germany for a long time. Mick developed his original tie based on a decorative rope technique he learned from Lew Rubens at Kink in the Caribbean 3 (hence the rope "Rose" on the top of the foot). The diamond foot cuff is much more comfortable for tying feet to bedposts or other attachment points, since there are no knots or pressure points on the side of the ankle, and the force is directed from under the sole parallel to the leg bones.
