" Darlin' Dinos were a short lived, but quite plentiful series produced by Meritus in 1992-93 (and Gig in Italy). There were three characters: Bronte, T Rexanne and Tri Sarah Tops which were used for each set made. They were about 4-6 inches high, produced in various colours and styles, and had long brushable hair. There were also several sets of miniatures and other various accessories produced. According to a Hasbro employee, Jem came first. It sounded like Hasbro took a Jem and the Holograms (or "M") box to Hong Kong/China for a trade show. After the show the box was thrown out. It sounds like a Mattel employee took the box out of a dumpster and took it back to the US. According to the Hasbro employee this is way the fabrics used for Barbie and the Rockers where so bright, because Mattel was working from the box and not a real Jem doll. Mattel's Starr seemed to be a teenaged version of the Barbie concept, the look and feel of the line seemed to really embody that late 70s/early 80s style.. Starr had a short tenure at Mattel but was very popular, in 1982 they expanded her line to include new friends, more fashions and a familiar automobile. Starr was the most popular girl in school according to Mattel, she kind of gives me a PJ Soles vibe. Personally I like her best friend Roller Girl better but I like "Zany" girls.
