I'm familiar with it, and so are you—at least the concept of it. It's the idea of turning to a large group of interested individuals (typically customers, in the context of CRM) for inspiration, resources, or labor. The social technology explosion has made crowdsourcing not just a possibility, but a key piece of strategy. This wasn't an isolated instance. A few months previous, I'd been at another conference (it's what people like me do) where crowdsourcing was a common topic. We're just in the third paragraph of this column, and you're probably already thinking I'm visiting this topic late. The reason is that I feel like some people don't realize how awesome crowdsourcing can be, or how much a part of our lives it was even before it gained currency in the business world.
