Making Your First Black and White Print | Darkroom Dave. Darkroom Papers and Printing Introduction The key to good black and white printing is control of the contrast. To make it easy to follow, numbers have been assigned to contrast levels and these are referred to as grades. The scale can vary between manufacturers but typically the contrast range is numbered between grades 0 and 5.

Normal contrast is around grade 2 or 3, low contrast is 0 and high contrast is 5. As the grade number increases so does the contrast. The papers are sensitive to blue and green light (as well as white light of course) but not orange and red. Types of photographic darkroom papers There are 2 basic types of darkroom printing papers: Graded: these are papers with fixed contrast.

Variable Contrast, VC: This type of paper gives you all the contrasts from grades 0 to 5 in one box. RC or FB: RC stands for resin-coated and is much easier and quicker to use. FB is for Fibre-Based. Surfaces: Glossy gives deepest blacks and hence greatest contrast. Filters The Process. Best Panorama Software for Stitching Images | 2018. Panoramas can make for a fun and interesting option for capturing photos. Personally, I'm a fan, and I've been shooting them for many years. By capturing a very wide--or, for that matter, tall--field of view, they can be dramatic. And they can be revealing, by adding context. Some newer cameras and smartphones have an automatic panorama setting built in where you can sweep the camera around the view and it'll all be stitched together in the camera. Here's a rundown of some of the better options for panorama stitching apps, ranging from simple, free apps to much more powerful, paid ones.

The ones I'm focusing on here are still image, flat panoramas. Dedicated Panorama Stitching Software | Free The best panorama apps tend to be paid ones, and not inexpensive at that.

THE PHOTOGRAPHIC NEWS, February 22, 1861, p.87 As this process appears just now to be exciting some attention, and, to judge by our correspondence, several of our subscribers appear anxious to give it a trial, we think that a succinct and detailed account of the various manipulations will prove acceptable to those to whom the process is not familiar--to whom the mere statement of formulae recently. given by Mr. Richards may be insufficient. In a former volume will be found a very full description of an albumen process, by Mr. Negretti; but, as he himself remarks, his method is little suited to amateur use.

We shall now select for description a modified process introduced by Mr. 1. Select always the largest eggs, and as fresh as they can be had. Fisheye Hemispheric lenses provide a broader view of the world than is possible with any other lens. Until now, the primary correction option available to the photographer was to render these images using rectilinear mapping techniques. These methods have many drawbacks, such as distortion of people and loss of resolution and data.

The Fisheye-Hemi filter provides an aesthetically pleasing and natural view of the image using a unique mapping technology. Fisheye-Hemi provides a more normal view of people when photographed at acceptable distances. It improves the resolution of the image by including more of the original pixels (in comparison to a rectilinear view), displays the intended composition and framing, and straightens vertical lines. How does Fisheye-Hemi work? Let's begin with a basic understanding of what a fisheye lens does and how the eye perceives the information.

The incredible AirStick™ microsuction tape used on the MOS is now available for you to use anywhere. AirStick tape bonds to any smooth, flat, clean surface without leaving any kind of sticky residue.

No Sticky Residue The surface of the tape has thousands of microscopic air pockets that create partial vacuums between the tape and the target surface. It isn’t pressure sensitive and leaves no residue behind. It can also be used repeatedly without losing its holding power. Reusable If your tape loses some of its bonding power, simply wipe it with a damp cloth to remove the dust and it will work as good as new.

To remove an object from AirStick™ tape, you simply pull or twist the object to break the vacuum bond. Strong Once in place a 4” x 1” piece of AirStick™ tape can hold a 1 pound piece of steel. The reverse side of the tape is covered in an acrylic adhesive for a more permanent bond with your base surface. Many uses Here is a video of us having fun with AirStick™ Microsuction Tape. Vedos. Kodak classics - mischa koning. Film Packs Film Packs were introduced in 1903. Initially known as the Premo Film Pack, after 1922 they were renamed as the Kodak Film Pack, and were available in a range of sizes from 6x4.5cm to 13x18cm (5x7"). Possibly originally designed as a replacement for glass plates, indeed adaptors were available for many cameras, until the mid-1920's Eastman Kodak manufactured many cameras with the Premo and Hawk-Eye brand names specifically for this format.

An interesting cross-over between old and new technology, the Film Pack comprised 12 cut celluloid films, stored in an (initially cardboard, later metal) outer that was simply placed in the back of the camera, packed in such a way that the simple expedient of pulling a paper tab loaded a fresh film into place for each exposure, the previously exposed film being at the same time moved to the back of the pack. Shown here are two views of a Premoette Junior No.1, with and without a Film Pack loaded.

Darkshop | delicate little bastards. Parts, 4×10 film holders Having just finished, here’s a few fresh observations on making film holders. Too thin is problematic- this reduces options for light baffles, makes joinery very thin, especially the darkslide baffle rail. I found some .03″ velvet (plain backed) and used up the .002″ brass shim stock left unused from my last adventure in filmholders. All said and done it worked out well, just tested one out in the sun loaded with film for a few minutes and no leaks. Wouldn’t want to make them any thinner. But the extra thinness does allow the option of making an adapter instead of an entire new back- the shim needed to bring the film holder to same spot as the ground glass can double as the base for the adapter, which would simply slide into the existing 5×12 back.I ignored ANSI standards for t-dimension and riblock placement as I’ll be making the back/adapter myself.

Over the past couple of weeks I have been developing and scanning film that I had taken over the past 4-5 months that has been documented in the last three posts. The last colour negatives to be developed were ten 8x10 inch negatives that are from the past year from the beginning of late summer 2012. I have attempted to develop 8x10 colour negatives in the past with mixed results due to technical errors in the developing stage of the processing, there was an unevenness in the distribution of developer that led to colour casting across the film, some issues could be fixed in digital post processing but this was undesirable, it is always best to start with a clean well processed negative before taking it into the digital or analogue darkroom. This issue has now been rectified through the acquisition of a second-hand Jobo CPP2 film processor that can accommodate large Jobo Expert film drums for the processing of large format film and rotate them at the correct speed.
