Please note that all of the tutorials and examples on this page require the following products: Oracle Database 11g Enterprise Edition, Oracle Spatial 11g Option, and Oracle Partitioning Option. This tutorial explains how to use Oracle Semantic Technologies to load, inference and query an ontology in Oracle Database using the National Cancer Institute (NCI) Semantic Network Ontology. A three hour workshop on Oracle Database Semantic Technologies given at the June 2011 Semantic Technologies Conference held in San Francisco, CA. This tutorial shows how to apply Jena APIs to the Semantic Technologies features of the Oracle Spatial Option by utilizing the Jena Adaptor for Oracle Database. This tutorial shows how to use the Semantic Technologies features of the Oracle Spatial Option to semantically index documents stored in relational tables and search for these documents using SPARQL-based document search criteria.

The Semantic Web Strategies conference is coming to San Jose, CA September 30 to October 2, 2007. The conference is being held by Jupitermedia and registration ranges from $50 for an exhibits-only pass and $1,795 for full conference options (if you register before the 12th of September you get a discount). The conference passport is the most expensive but you get the following good stuff: If you can't afford the conference passport, you may want to go after the one day pass which is priced at $795. You won't get the pre-conference tutorials, but at least you're there.

Microformats are a wildly popular set of formats for embedding metadata within normal XHTML. The primary advantage Microformats offer over RDF (including its embedded serializations) is that you can embed metadata directly in the XHTML, reducing the amount of markup you need to write (e.g. you don't have to write XHTML and additional RDF). Many people have contended that Microformats are a possible replacement for RDF, however Microformats were not designed to cover the same scope as RDF was. While both Microformats and RDF make it possible to store data about data, they simply do not work to solve the same set of problems. A quick comparison I don't blame the Microformats people for this confusion over what Microformats are or are not.
