Hamantaschen. The Best Chocolate Sheet Cake. Ever. When I posted my recipe for "The Best Lasagna Ever" yesterday, I couldn’t have anticipated that I’d wind up hearing from Draco, a real-live Italian who lives near Bologna, Italy, where lasagna was first created.

The Best Chocolate Sheet Cake. Ever.

Nor could I have ever predicted I’d hear from MP, who lives in an Italian neighborhood and buys Parmiganno-Regianno by the bag, dang it. I might just go ahead at this point and clarify that yes, my lasagna is, in fact, "The Best Ever"…unless you live near Bologna, Italy or in an Italian neighborhood or anywhere near Mario Batali. Okay? Are you happy now, Draco? Party pooper. Now…this cake? The Cast of Characters. First, melt 2 sticks regular (not unsalted) butter in a saucepan. When the butter is melted, add 4 heaping tablespoons cocoa powder… And mix thoroughly. With the heat still on, pour in the boiling water… And allow the mixture to bubble for 30 seconds.

Turn off heat. In a large mixing bowl, combine 2 cups flour, 2 cups sugar… And 1/4 teaspoon salt. Grandma Johnson's Scones Recipe. Salted Peanut Cookies Recipe from Betty Crocker. Oreo Cookies and Cream Cookies. Willpower is not merely a word; it is the underlying force that drives human action and reaction. Willpower is both the power to suppress and the power to incite. Willpower, or lack thereof, is smothering my ability to review for final exams. It’s the reason I woke up at 10:30 this fine Saturday morning.

It’s the reason there’s a pile of dishes next to the sink, begging to be cleaned. Despite the limits of willpower, it’s also why I love to run. Certainly, willpower has an endless number of applications to everyday life. Sure, one cookie is fine. But beyond the threshold of three is a point of no return, my friends. Or in this case, butter and crushed Oreos. But, then again, doesn’t skidding perilously along plastic coated with softened butter, mushed white frosting, and chocolate wafer crumbs sound like fun? Then come ride the Oreo cookie slip-and-slide. Cookies and Cream Cookies Yield: about 14 medium cookies. Baked Doughnuts Recipe. Mention the concept of a baked doughnut to any self-professed doughnut connoisseur, chances are you'll take some heat.

Baked Doughnuts Recipe

The idea that a baked doughnut can match up to its deep-fried brethren is laughable in some circles. I'll concede they aren't the same, but baked doughnuts can be just as delicious - delicious yet different. They get bonus points for being healthier and for not making the house smell like a greasy fry station. I spent the better part of Sunday trying to get the dough for these yeasted baked doughnuts right. Broadly speaking, if you can make pizza dough, you can make these. Many recipes call for water as the base liquid, I opted for milk (I like the softness of the milk-based rolls I've made in the past) and I baked batches at 375, 400, and 425. You can glaze these the way you would any other doughnut, but because I knew these were going to be at their pinnacle of taste minutes after coming out of the oven, I opted for a simple, classic, sugar dusting.

But it doesn’t just start there. It began with food blogger’s block (writer’s block, but for food bloggers)… The most frustrating thing for any food blogger. Many of us will not admit that we sometimes get it, but I find no problem with admitting that I occasionally get food blogger’s block. Why? Scone Nibbles. 1) In a large mixing bowl, whisk together all the dry ingredients. 2) Work in the butter just until the mixture is unevenly crumbly; it's OK for some larger chunks of butter to remain unincorporated. 3) Stir in the chips or finely chopped chocolate. 4) In a separate mixing bowl, whisk together the eggs, vanilla or other flavor, and 1/2 cup half and half or milk. 5) Add the liquid ingredients to the dry ingredients and stir until all is moistened and holds together.

Scone Nibbles

Stir in additional milk or half and half if the dough seems dry, and doesn't come together. 6) Scrape the dough onto a well-floured work surface. 7) Cut the square into 2" squares; you'll have a total of 16 small squares. 8) Transfer the scones to a parchment-lined or well-greased baking sheet. 9) For best texture and highest rise, place the pan of scones in the freezer for 30 minutes, uncovered. 10) Bake the scones for 19 to 20 minutes, or until they're golden brown. Pretzel Cookies with Chocolate & Peanut Butter Chips. It seems like the culinary world has been slightly obsessed with the salty/sweet combination lately.

Pretzel Cookies with Chocolate & Peanut Butter Chips

I keep seeing salted caramel desserts and fleur de sel sprinkled on top of various desserts. I for one, am completely for this. Once I made the infamous NY Times chocolate chip cookie recipe with sea salt sprinkled on top, I was hooked. So when I had a bunch of left over pretzel salt from making soft pretzels, I knew exactly what I would do with it. These cookies were awesome. I absolutely loved the combination of pretzel, milk chocolate, and peanut butter and I would make these again in a second. Another note about these cookies is that they did not spread very much for me. Recipe: Chocolate & Peanut Butter Chip Pretzel CookiesMakes 24 cookies Ingredients: Directions:
