Arctic Animals. We've been learning about Polar Bears this week and to go along with all the books we've read we decided to make Polar Bear masks. They turned out so cute! These are the books we've been reading. Polar Bears by Valerie Bodden A non-fiction children's book with beautiful photographs of Polar Bears. Where Do Polar Bears Live? This book has good information about polar bear's and is environmentally friendly discussing how the climate is changing in the Arctic and scientist's don't believe polar bears will be able to live in the wild after 2020. Sleepover Larry by Daniel Pinkwater This one of the books in the Larry series about a Polar Bear named Larry who lives in a hotel with a family.

The Biggest Thing in the World by Kenneth Steven A Mother and baby polar bear come out of their den and the baby is mesmerized by all the big things he sees in the world around him. The most difficult part about making our polar bear masks was making the holes in the paper plate for the eyes. Happy Crafting!

Simple tissue paper snowflakes - happy hooligans/easy snowflake craft. I might just be in love with today’s totally impromptu craft! We made these simple tissue paper snowflakes today after one of the hooligans’ parents surprised us with a very large bag full of of tissue paper. It was late in the afternoon, and close to home time, but hey, when someone hands you somethin’ like that, you just gotta get crafty. Plus, the hooligans were so excited, you’d have thought we’d been given a bag full of new toys.

They couldn’t wait to get their hands on it, so we whipped up a few of these little pretties. You’re going to love the simplicity of this craft. All you need are a few narrow strips of cardboard (think cereal box), and some white tissue paper. For each snowflake, I cut 3 strips of cardboard approx. 1/2 wide by 8 inches long, and I hot-glued them together in snowflake fashion. Then I cut a couple of sheets of the tissue paper into 4×4 inch squares. How cute are these? Snow painting - happy hooligans & cbc kids - creating art in the snow. If winter has truly arrived where you are, you’ll definitely want to add SNOW PAINTING to your list of fun, outdoor activities to try with your children!

This activity is super-easy to set up, and fun for kids of all ages! Pop over to CBC Parents to see the full post and to get the details on how to create some snowy art at your house!

Bon bricolage! Winter Crafts. This past weekend we took a trip with my family to a Ranch up in the mountains that feeds Elk during the winter months. You can purchase a ticket for a small fee to take a horse drawn carriage ride through the field to get a close encounter with the amazing animals. The drive up to the ranch is about a 17-mile scenic drive of snowy beautiful mountainous landscape. These kinds of drives are my absolute favorite! After our visit I knew I wanted to make some kind of snowy landscape art this week. Since my daughter has been practicing her cutting skills, it was a perfect opportunity for her to practice cutting lines also. Here is my daughter's (3 yrs) snowy mountain artwork. Materials You Will Need: Blue sheet Cardstock Paper (we used 12" x 12") Brown sheet Cardstock Paper (we used 12" x 12") White sheet Cardstock Paper Several different colors of Green Paper Scissors Gluestick White Paint Toothbrush or Q-tip (depending on your preference) Directions: 1. 2. 3. 4. 5.
