ASHA defines evidence-based practice as “the integration of research evidence with practitioner expertise and client preferences and values into the process of making clinical decisions.”

Highlighted in that statement are 3 important considerations that clinicians need to make when selecting treatments for patients: As a clinician, you have a responsibility to use treatments that are backed by researchIt is necessary to use your own clinical expertise to judge the validity of evidenceYou are responsible for factoring your client into your decision. Are the cost benefit trade offs reasonable for this client? What do you know about the client that may make them receptive or not receptive to a treatment? Can their families properly support them throughout a specific treatment?

Evidence based practice is still relatively new to speech pathology, as well as to other therapies such as physical and occupational. Even if you are not a CCC-SLP, EBP is still important for you and your patients. Data Driven Instruction Library. Data Driven Instruction. Data Driven Instruction and Inquiry All of our data driven instruction resources are now available from the Data Driven Instruction library. Data Driven Instruction and Inquiry (DDI) is a precise and systematic approach to improving student learning throughout the year. The inquiry cycle of data-driven instruction includes assessment, analysis, and action and is a key framework for school-wide support of all student success.

From district superintendent, to superintendent, to principal, to teacher, educators should be continuously asking: Where are we in terms of our goals? Where are our students in terms of their college and career readiness? Student performance tasks show us what our students know and are able to do, and where the gaps are in their learning, but how do we make sure that we’re using the data from those performance tasks to close those gaps? NIHR Centre for Reviews and Dissemination - CRD Database. Evidence-Based Practice Introduction. There is an abundance of definitions of evidence-based practice (EBP). Fortunately, most of them say essentially the same thing. The most well-known definition is that put forth by David Sackett and colleagues: "Evidence-based medicine is the integration of best research evidence with clinical expertise and patient values.

" (Sackett D et al. Evidence-Based Medicine: How to Practice and Teach EBM, 2nd edition. Churchill Livingstone, Edinburgh, 2000, p.1) In 2004, ASHA's Executive Board convened a coordinating committee on evidence-based practice. The goal of EBP is the integration of: (a) clinical expertise/expert opinion, (b) external scientific evidence, and (c) client/patient/caregiver values to provide high-quality services reflecting the interests, values, needs, and choices of the individuals we serve. Documents of Interest. Identifying and Implementing Educational Practices Supported By Rigorous Evidence: A User Friendly Guide - Purpose and Executive Summary. Purpose and Executive Summary This Guide seeks to provide educational practitioners with user-friendly tools to distinguish practices supported by rigorous evidence from those that are not. The field of K-12 education contains a vast array of educational interventions - such as reading and math curricula, schoolwide reform programs, after-school programs, and new educational technologies - that claim to be able to improve educational outcomes and, in many cases, to be supported by evidence.

This evidence often consists of poorly-designed and/or advocacy-driven studies. State and local education officials and educators must sort through a myriad of such claims to decide which interventions merit consideration for their schools and classrooms. If practitioners have the tools to identify evidence-based interventions, they may be able to spark major improvements in their schools and, collectively, in American education. In addition, appendix B contains a checklist to use in this process. Top. EBP Web-Based Tutorials. N-CEP Evidence-Based Systematic Reviews. ASHA's Evidence Maps. Home.
