The library is a place where students can get away from the bustle of the classroom and study in a relaxed and welcoming environment. At St Aloysius’ College, we encourage all our students to read for pleasure – whether online or on the page. Our goal is to support each individual in their studies, help them as they develop their own interests, and, ultimately, spur them on to become life-long learners. Current research tells us that reading habits can have a profound impact on a child’s academic progress – so there’s nothing more important than having a place where those habits can be nurtured. The library has an ever-expanding collection of fiction and non-fiction resources, covering subjects across the curriculum as well as a range of extra-curricular topics.

We also have a selection of magazines and newspapers, keeping students up to date on everything from art and design to current affairs. The library is open to students from P7 through to S6. Staff Elisabeth Dearden Opening Hours. Learning Resources - Mount St Marys. The Library aims to support and enhance the educational aims, policies and practices of the College through the Librarian, especially as these relate to independent learning.

Towards this end, the Librarian is responsible for relating the Library's hybrid collection to the current and anticipated requirements, both academic and recreational, of teachers and scholars. The Librarian is ably assisted by a team of pupil Librarians who share responsibility for running this busy Library. Borrowing from the Library Pupils may borrow up to five books at a time from the Library, and books are normally issued for two weeks. Pupils may, however, borrow books over school holidays should they wish to do so. Reference Section The Library has a Reference section of current information that may not be taken out on loan so that it remains available to everyone. Fiction Section The Library aims to encourage pupils to read as widely as possible. Non-fiction Section Audiovisual Balconies Careers Section.
