Introduction to Algebra. Algebra sounds like a difficult concept, and you may have heard that it is from an older sibling or parent.

Introduction to Algebra

Don't worry-- it's not hard at all. The basic idea is that we have an equation that is balanced on both sides. Picture a scale in your head with the same values on each side, and you have a basic understanding of algebra. Notice how there is a six on each side, and so they are equal and the scale is balanced? That is your first equation! Of course, you don't have to use addition. That's a great equation we have created, but it serves no purpose. The empty box indicates a missing number. The next step in algebra is learning about a variable.

Notice that the 'x' is a variable, NOT the multiplication sign. The best way to solve is by isolating the variable on one side of the equation, so that we can tell what value it holds by looking at the other side of the equation, as in x=4. Remember- the goal is to get the variable alone by doing the same thing to each side. Math Worksheets. Algebra Help. Sets of numbers Worksheets.

In the world of mathematics we have categorized all the numbers that exist into certain sets.

Sets of numbers Worksheets

Let’s describe the certain sets that exist as well as their properties: The Set of Natural Numbers Definition: The set \mathbb{N} of natural numbers is defined by \mathbb{N} = \left\{ {1,2,3, \ldots } \right\} The set of natural numbers is often referred to as the set of counting numbers, because they are those numbers that we use to count. The Set of Integers Definition: The set \mathbb{Z} of integers is defined by \mathbb{Z} = \left\{ { \ldots , - 3, - 2, - 1,0,1,2,3, \ldots } \right\} The set of integers contains all whole numbers (including 0) and their opposites.

The Set of Rational Numbers Definition: The set \mathbb{Q} of rational numbers is defined by Here is the set of rational numbers, all those numbers that can be expressed as a ratio of two integers. The Set of Irrational Numbers Together all these sets combined make up the SET OF REAL NUMBERS. Cool math .com - Online Math Dictionary for K-Algebra- formulas, definitions, diagrams and examples.
