These heat maps reveal where we feel love, anger, shame & sadness on our bodies

A team of Finnish researchers have created heat maps of where and how emotions are experienced on the human body. The goal of the study was to find out if there is a consistent connection, across various demographic groups and geographical regions, between what we feel and the physical sensation of that feeling. The Mandelbrot Set

Mandelbrot Set. The term Mandelbrot set is used to refer both to a general class of fractal sets and to a particular instance of such a set.

Mandelbrot Set

In general, a Mandelbrot set marks the set of points in the complex plane such that the corresponding Julia set is connected and not computable. "The" Mandelbrot set is the set obtained from the quadratic recurrence equation with , where points. COOL Space-Science. 10 Interesting Futuristic Materials. 1.

New diamond aerogel is so light that it's like "frozen smoke" made of diamonds. Carbyne: The new world's strongest material? Researchers at Rice University have used a computer simulation to calculate that carbyne, a monodimensional chain of carbon atoms, is twice as strong as carbon nanotubes and three times stiffer than diamond.

Carbyne: The new world's strongest material?

If their findings are correct and the challenges posed by manufacturing it can be overcome, then carbyne could prove an incredibly useful material for a wide range of applications. Carbon by any other name As you may remember from organic chemistry class, one the main factors that makes carbon so special is its ability to easily bond with atoms, including itself, in a number of different forms. Even tinkering with carbon atoms alone can result in different forms (or allotropes) of carbon, ranging from graphite to diamonds and, more recently, artificial forms such as buckyballs, graphene and carbon nanotubes. These artificial forms can yield surprising results both in terms of their mechanical strength and their possible applications, such as in next-gen electronics. Graphene Aerogel – Lightest Material in The World. A research team headed by Professor Gao Chao have developed ultra-light aerogel – it breaks the record of the world’s lightest material with surprising flexibility and oil-absorption.

Six new isotopes of the superheavy elements discovered

Department of Energy's Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory has detected six isotopes, never seen before, of the superheavy elements 104 through 114. Rare earth element. As defined by IUPAC, a rare earth element (REE) or rare earth metal is one of a set of seventeen chemical elements in the periodic table, specifically the fifteen lanthanides, as well as scandium and yttrium.[2] Scandium and yttrium are considered rare earth elements because they tend to occur in the same ore deposits as the lanthanides and exhibit similar chemical properties.

Rare earth element

List[edit] A table listing the seventeen rare earth elements, their atomic number and symbol, the etymology of their names, and their main usages (see also Applications of lanthanides) is provided here. Some of the rare earth elements are named after the scientists who discovered or elucidated their elemental properties, and some after their geographical discovery. A mnemonic for the names of the sixth-row elements in order is "Lately college parties never produce sexy European girls that drink heavily even though you look".[6] Abbreviations[edit]

If you've learned all the elements from actinium to zirconium, it's time to head back to the periodic table, where there's a new, extremely heavy element in town. The new element doesn't have an official name yet, so scientists are calling it ununpentium, based on the Latin and Greek words for its atomic number, 115. For over 50 years, the American Academy of Environmental Medicine (AAEM) has been studying and treating the effects of the environment on human health. In the last 20 years, our physicians began seeing patients who reported that electric power lines, televisions and other electrical devices caused a wide variety of symptoms.

By the mid 1990's, it became clear that patients were adversely affected by electromagnetic fields and becoming more electrically sensitive. In the last five years with the advent of wireless devices, there has been a massive increase in radiofrequency (RF) exposure from wireless devices as well as reports of hypersensitivity and diseases related to electromagnetic field and RF exposure. Multiple studies correlate RF exposure with diseases such as cancer, neurological disease, reproductive disorders, immune dysfunction, and electromagnetic hypersensitivity.

The fact that RF exposure causes neurological damage has been documented repeatedly. EMF Protection Blog - Subtle Energy Protection from EMFs. EMF Hygiene: How to Minimize Health Risks From Wireless Devices. In recent years, there's been a groundswell of science documenting significant health risks associated with exposure to radiofrequency radiation from cell phones, computers, and other modern wireless telecom devices.

The concerns range from reduced fertility (read Male Infertility Linked with Cell Phone EMF Exposure) to cardiac abnormalities, to potentially increased risk of cancers including brain tumors. Just last month, the World Health Organization's International Agency for Research on Cancer classified RF from cell phones as a 'Possible Human Carcinogen' (Read the IARC statement). IARC Director Chris Wild said, "Given the potential consequences for public health of this classification and findings, it is important that additional research be conducted into the long-term, heavy use of mobile phones. Physics cannot describe what happens inside a black hole. There, current theories break down, and general relativity collides with quantum mechanics, creating what's called a singularity, or a point at whichthe equations spit out infinities. But some advanced physics theories are trying to bridge the gap between general relativity and quantum mechanics, tounderstand what's truly going on inside the densest objects in the universe.

Recently, scientists applied a theory called loop quantum gravity to the case of black holes, and found that inside these objects, space and time may be extremely curved, but that gravity there is not infinite, as general relativity predicts. This was the first time scientists have applied the full loop quantum gravity theory to black holes, and the results were encouraging, researchers said.

Since the ancient Greeks first speculated that everything they observed in reality was the result of the interaction of tiny particles they called atoms, great thinkers have tried to find a single mathematical formula that governs and explains the workings of the entire universe.
