The Convertible “Infinity” Dress: How it almost defeated me, and what you need to make one

It’s pretty cool. It’s a convertible dress that’s basically a circle and two straps, so it’s really easy, inexpensive, and crazy versatile. It’s been around forever and everyone seems to love it (in fact, part of the reason I’m posting this is to answer some questions for people I’ve run into), and I can hardly believe how close I came to not making it at all. I first found the instructions at a blog called rostitchery, and then I came across a second set at Cut Out + Keep. It sounded so easy. So I bought some material, spread it out in the living room, cut out my pieces, and… …stopped. I didn’t understand the next step. Turn the skirt inside out? And what’s this about making them overlap each other? There’s, like, a band of fabric involved? What? I figured I was just being thick. So I folded up my circle and my straps and I put it all back in the bag it came in.

And I went upstairs to watch TV. I was wearing my new dress after about half an hour. Even me. Good luck! Fabric Swap - 100+ fat quarter tutorials.... Let me tell you, there are a squillion or more tutorials out there and I could have spent months finding even more for you!

Fabric Swap - 100+ fat quarter tutorials....

I admit I didn't check exactly how much fabric you needed for all these projects but I am pretty sure that you can make them all with one or two fat quarters, less for a lot of them. And don't be blaming me if you spend hours sucked into lots of 'new to you' blogs - some of them are hard to escape from, you have been warned! Many of these blogs have lots of other tutorials to offer so take a look around. If you have any tutorials of your own that you would like to add to the list, add a comment with a link to it, cheers, I'll add this list to the tutorials page so you can easily find it again, there are a number of these tutorials I have already tried and now there are quite a number on my to do list :o) Various book covers For The Kids Softies For The Home Wearables Bags, Purses and Pouches Cases other cute zakka tutorials For The Pets. Memorable Ways to Repurpose Old T-Shirts – Crafting a Green World

Even if they are worn out, faded or no longer fit, we can’t seem to let go because of the fond memories they hold. It could be a concert t-shirt from your favorite band, or a college shirt that remind you of the good ol’ days, or maybe it’s one of your child’s tiny tees that they’ve grown out of. They are filled with memories so you can’t let go, but they are taking up space in a drawer or box collecting dust.

But they don’t have to. If you have some craft and sewing skills you can turn your old t-shirts into upcycled, repurposed and memorable items. Like a pillow. There are instructions all over if you need them and Savvy Seams has a nice tutorial to turn a t-shirt into a zip off pillow cover to put over a form. Maiden Jane has a fancier tutorial for creating a pillow with the t-shirt and other fabric. If you want a great quilt pattern MaidenJane has one for sale on Etsy.
