We head towards the north, travelling near the coast of the River Plate until we arrive at San Isidro, an elegant residential neighborhood, one of the most beautiful outside the capital city. Once in San Isidro we will visit the old quarter, very well preserved. There, we can see the Cathedral, of Neogothic style. Surrounding the Cathedral we will admire the mansions that used to belong to the wealthy families of the area. We will then visit the Paseo de los 3 Ombúes viewpoint, and the Mariquita Sánchez de Thompson house-museum, a construction that dates from the colonial times.

Dinner Tango Show Colonia del Sacramento. The walking tour starts at the Portón de Campo (city gate), were we will admire the old wall and wooden bridge . Next, we will go to the Calle de los Suspiros (Street of Sighs), a narrow cobbled street surrounded by 18th century colonial houses. The street’s main attractive is the combination of the old houses, the colours and the river view at the end of it. We will arrive on 25 de Mayo Square (Main Square), created during the foundation of the city, from where we will be able to see some beautiful and well preserved Portuguese-style houses: the Portuguese Museum, with remarkable stone walls of 90 cm. width, Nacarello´s House, which exhibits original furniture of the XVIII century, and the Viceroy’s House, whose name surprises because there were never any viceroys in Colonia.
Later, we will visit an archaeological site, which was formerly the original Portuguese construction destined for Residence of the Governor, destroyed by the Spanish in 1777. Duration: Full Day (schedule below). Gaucho Tour Buenos Aires Tango Shows. We will travel 120 kilometers away from Buenos Aires to enter the land of the Gauchos. We will first stop at San Antonio de Areco, a colonial village that preserves the Gaucho traditions to their full. There we will visit the main square and the old beautiful church, which dates from 1753, and then Dragui´s workshop, the most famous silversmith in Argentina. We will spend the rest of the day at El Ombú. There we will have a tasty asado (barbecue) with Argentine wines for lunch, and enjoy the countryside activities: guided horse ride or outing in a horse drawn carriage. Depending on the amount of people in the ranch, El Ombú sometimes offers Gaucho Folk music groups, and creole horse-back skill events, such as sortija races, horseback sprints, bullock lassoing and hog-tying.

History of the corner At the corner of the alley named after Carlos Gardel and Anchorena Street, next to a statue that immortalizes the most famous tango singer, there used to be a restaurant that was the gathering place for the colorful characters of the popular market of Buenos Aires.
Chanta Cuatro Restaurant was a silent companion to Carlitos Gardel’s nights of dining and tango singing until sunrise with friends. Chanta Cuatro opened its doors for the first time in 1893, at that time as a two-storied restaurant and family hotel. Visitors were invited to play “bochas” (bocce) at the court attached to the restaurant. The opening of Chanta Cuatro was almost simultaneous with that of the old Mercado de Abasto (produce market) of the city of Buenos Aires, sharing its glory and decadence.
It housed workers, immigrants and “malandras” (scoundrels). It witnessed the splendor of tango, maybe due to the proximity to Carlos Gardel’s home at Jean Jaures Street, less than two blocks away.
