Evidence of furniture survives from as far back as the Neolithic Period in the form of paintings, wall Murals discovered at Pompeii, in sculpture and examples have also been excavated in Egyptian Pyramids and found in tombs in Ghiordes (modern day Turkey). These notes will track the main advancements, developments, styles and materials in furniture design highlighting the identifying features of each period, the materials used and show images of some of the most significant pieces of furniture ever designed. A spacious walk in closet can be organized in many different arrangements per owner requirements. The other Bedrooms also have walk in closets and, more, there is a large linen closet in the Hall and a coat closet in the Foyer where either place can accommodate vacuum cleaners and other household necessities often overlooked in many plans. The idea of designing places in which we live and work fascinates me so much so that I would have probably attempted some sort of career with it if I wasn’t absolutely retarded at math. I thought it might be cool/helpful/interesting/whatever to explain an overview of the more popular architectural styles throughout history. ANCIENT GREEK Known for temples, open air theaters, rectangular buildings, statues and columns. Had defined, elegant proportions uncomplicated by colors and heavy mixing of materials. Think Disney’s rendition of Hercules. ROMAN The use of the arch and improvements with concrete led to beautiful aqueducts and bridge structures. GOTHIC This style was big during the medieval period. RENAISSANCE The renaissance architectural styles were very unimaginative. BAROQUE Baroque architecture was all about grandeur. ROCOCO If baroque is the equivalent of a stern and overbearing father, Rococo is the young and whimsical daughter.
